VIRTUES From the Chaplain

Te¯na¯ koutou katoa Peace to you, in the name of God. Reflecting on 2022, one likes to think, despite the change in chaplaincy in this community, there is a sense of continuity, with Chapel central to so much of what makes Christ’s the College it is. Arguably, our boys gathering, learning and being sent from Chapel puts not only Christ in the frame, but also gives breath to the very idea of a college (people selected to work together).

First, thank you to the boys who have carried our Chapel culture through another disrupted year. In Term 1, masked and with gathering restrictions, the boys attended Chapel by House – some 70 boys per service. We were able to reflect in an individualised way on the men and women for whom each House has been named, and how in their lives and contributions to our College history they reflected the dispositions of Christ. The boys were unable to sing en masse. To give

some voice to the beauty of song we were able to “pipe” through the audio system a version of our new school hymn Give Christ the Praise and Glory , which was recorded by the choir in late 2021. Towards the end of term, our senior choristers from the Chapel Choir formed up at the beginning of services and

sang from outside the Chapel. As we returned to half school

Chapel services in Term 2, we were gradually able to reintroduce singing, a facet of College life which is widely
