losses in double figures. It was a tough season, heavily shaped by the relentless presence of Covid-19. Ongoing absences meant that the team never really had the opportunity to properly gel and fulfil its true potential, with team members being required to play for longer bursts and in unfamiliar positions. Nonetheless, the U15C side still has plenty to be proud of, with moments of great rugby despite these challenges. The boys showed a lot of heart in their games against the Christchurch Boys’ High School and St Bede’s U14s, with the scoreline to these matches, 32–19 and 22–7, respectively, suggesting steady improvement. Throughout the season, several players showed potential and were crucial contributors in attempting to play with a degree of structure. Spencer Cull showed pace and intent, Samuel Pye and William McNeil were solid contributors with ball in hand, while Hayden Douglass was outstanding in defending numerous attacks. Despite our best efforts, the season came to a premature end for the U15C squad. The boys were scheduled to play a semi-final match against the top side from CBHS, but a disastrous combination of Covid-19 and injuries meant that it was impossible to field a team on the day. Despite significant setbacks, there were several mainstays in our team who could be relied on, no matter the day or the situation. Jack Hastie, Ali Coles, and Spencer Cull consistently modelled the attribute of perseverance, and Callum Fox, Angus Haugh and Willie Ryan were always enthusiastic and played to their very best. Although this rugby season has had its frustrations, the management team extends its thanks to the players for hanging in there and giving it their all. We also wish to thank the parent community for their amazing support throughout the season. We look forward to what will, hopefully, be a more conventional and rewarding season next year.

The team was made possible thanks to the overwhelming popularity of this sport among our junior boys. The team began life playing in Division 4 of the U15 grade, but found this too overwhelming, despite securing a couple of fantastic victories against St Andrew’s College and St Bede’s College in their grading games. After some heavy losses in competition play, the boys were eventually moved into the U14 Division, with the hopes that this would make for a more equitable rugby experience. While the boys had several promising games in this division, it was unfortunate that they fell short of finding a win, with several

With a new crop of young talented players arriving at College, the coaches had their work cut out selecting a squad to begin the season. With plenty of boys willing to show they had the skills and ability, we had a larger than usual squad. Our first commitment as a team was the Easter holiday rugby camp where we covered patterns of play, unit roles and responsibilities, safety of the tackle technique, and installing a love of the game and a pride and passion for representing College. Our first weekend together was a grading game and the boys were feeling a little nervous but excited to play with their new team, involving different boys and different coaches. We got off to a good start with those two games and started to see the potential of what our team had to offer.
