St Thomas of Canterbury College This was the first full game we played together. In the first half, we went off leading by just a couple of points. In the second half, we thought we had done enough and soon St Thomas hit us hard when we least expected it. Later in the game a spark was lit and we started to come back but, unfortunately, a bit too late, with St Thomas coming out with the win. Overall, the boys played very well, displaying improved skills, even though it was so early in the season. St Andrew’s College After seeing that we had made division 1, the boys were in a very good mood. StAC came out with some fire and soon rushed into a big lead, looking like the favourite to win. But the boys were not going to let that happen, especially not at home. We started to discover the weakness of the other team and used it to our advantage. We saw that our lineout maul was very effective and we began to get more comfortable with it. Near the end of the game we scored a try, putting us two points ahead to end with a win. Overall, it was very good to see the boys come together and play with lots of energy, pride and passion. Christchurch Boys’ High School After seeing that we were playing

first half, we were still half asleep and St Thomas hit us hard. We went into the half-time break down by close to 40 points. In the second half, we came out with more energy and started to put more and more points on the scoreboard. The boys started to get more and more pumped but, unfortunately, after scoring the last try of the game, we found the gap was too big to close and so still ended with a loss. We found out we needed to start and finish with fire rushing through our veins and to play for every second with that drive to be the best. We made that one of our goals for the remainder of the season. St Andrew’s College This game was a shield game and after one of Lionel Randall’s Friday meetings, the boys were ready like never before. We hit the field with some electrifying momentum, scoring points very early in the game. Lots of boys had some very key moments, like Tawhiri Cate making an awesome intercept try and Freddie Hastie coming out of a maul, scoring underneath the posts. All the boys played very well, with heart, passion and desire. We were on our try line defending for a solid eight minutes not letting StAC score any points. We finished the game with a well- deserved win, making us the shield holder. For an extra treat, the boys even got to enjoy some sausages and chocolate milk that StAC provided. It was great to be able to make friends with the StAC boys. Christchurch Boys’ High School This was our first week holding the shield. The boys came to the game ready but not fizzing with excitement. It was a cold winter’s morning down at CBHS as we kicked off to the opposition. There were some big hits in the first few minutes before CBHS scored in the corner. The boys came together and we had a talk about what more we needed to do and we set out to implement our plan. We put the pressure on, dominating the territory, but not being able to capitalise. Our finishing and execution let us down and we were unable to effect our game plan properly. After some poor ruck work

on our side, CBHS had the ball again and scored, going ahead 10–0. We tried and tried but could not get anything working. CBHS dotted down again on full-time, making it 15–0. This was a tough one for the boys as we were the better team, but we kept our heads high ready for a big game next week. Shirley Boys’ High School The boys bounced back, fizzing for a big game against SBHS. We had a good warm up and the boys were set. We received the ball off the kick-off and put in some good pressure to start the game. We scored in the far corner of a good clean lineout and as a result of some very good skills and passing from the backs. We carried on cracking with some very good defence against a scrappy team, sustaining a few injuries and Sam Cochrane getting knocked out. This led to some scrappy play from the opposition team, which resulted in a yellow card for its captain. We made our move and attacked non- stop and managed to get out to a very convincing lead of 27–0. This was a result of good forward lineout and scrum work and good skills and execution from our backs. St Andrew’s College This was our 3rd time playing StAC and the boys came out all ready to go and there was a good atmosphere. We started the game well, scoring in the first 10 minutes of one of our strongest lineout moves all season – the driving maul. StAC came right back to some poor defence from us, but the boys got back on track and struck again off another rolling maul from a lineout in the 22. At half-time, the boys listened well and came back out hissing. StAC struck with a conversion from a penalty, which we gave away in our 22. After scoring again, StAC was leading, 30–21. It was the last play and Lui Tupuola ran in under the sticks after some good passing, which brought us back at 28–30, but it was not enough this time. Some good kicking from Jackson Grace, Ollie-Cooper King and Ben Campbell kept us well in the game but, sadly, StAC went home with the spoils.

CBHS on the rugby draw app, the boys were fizzing to make a

statement. In the first half we were leading, but only by a few points and you could tell that College was playing a more hearty and meaningful game. In the second half, Ben Campbell made a great chip and chase try, putting us up by seven. Unfortunately, we once again slacked off and relied on more heart than brains. CBHS put together a set piece in front of the try line, getting a try and conversion to end the game with a 12–12 draw. Overall, we played a great game and the boys showed lots of passion. We just needed a bit more experience together in how to close out a game, especially when in a commanding position. St Thomas of Canterbury College We went into this game with a desire to win but we found out that in the
