Year 11 Find Your Pathway With Year 11 students studying for the College Diploma, there is now the opportunity for the boys to have a greater exposure to the world of work and study options. They had site visits to New Zealand Merino and Archibalds and on site at College. The site visits allowed the boys to see organisations in action and hear about the employees' pathway to their current jobs. The boys also had the opportunity to visit tertiary institutions in and around Christschurch. They visited Lincoln University, the University of Canterbury and Ara. The two universities provided hands-on activities and campus tours. The Ara visit allowed viewing of both campus sites, the city campus in Madras Street and the trades campus in Ensors Road. Many were surprised at the size of these tertiary institutions.

The message in our final briefing was that, in some cases, these organisations offer the same thing, and each has its own strengths. The challenge for the boys is to find the best fit. Career Convos In the past we have had Old Boys come and talk during lunchtimes. This year, Alumni Manager Lizzie Dyer and I have hosted several Thursday morning presentations called “Career Convos”. These are held in the Jacobs House Leadership Lounge. It is very informal and the boys have a light breakfast on arrival. Attending these sessions is voluntary and these smaller groups have allowed boys to be in a relaxed space and ask questions. It was obvious that Career Convos was a popular option as numbers increased as the year progressed. The sessions covered building

provides regular updates on news, events, and jobs. Parents and boys have been encouraged to sign up from the link advertised fortnightly in, In Black & White . The fortnightly newsletter continues to provide relevant information. Subject Option Evening We continued with our evening of NCEA information and the opportunity for parents to talk to teachers and staff from Te Pu¯kenga Ara, Lincoln University and the University of Canterbury. Having these providers here allowed boys to plan ahead with tertiary courses and prerequisite subjects. It is our intention to make further use of Ara in 2023 by having drop-in sessions in the library as more boys are looking at trade and pre-trade courses in the future.
