Paul – a Richards House Old Boy – spoke at the dinner. He challenged the boys to be confident in whatever they try to do, to be who you are, and to appreciate your life as a boarder. He said that when you look through the history of boarding, today it’s golden age. Boarding has never been this good before. Head of Boarding Awards Awarded to boys who, in the eyes of their Housemasters, have stood out, either throughout the year or in a specific activity. Flower’s House – Richard Harnett Richards House – William Simpson School House – Jake Abbiss Overall Boarding House Cup Awarded to the House that has competed the best in all boarding and interhouse competitions. seniors because of examinations, our activity focus was on the juniors. The boys visited Sumner for surfing, enjoyed trampolining, and went to Woodford Glen for the car races and fireworks. Activities included dolphin watching in Akaroa, an opportunity to play lawn bowls, the A&P Show, a swimming trip to Jellie Park, airsoft, Christmas in the Park, watching the junior production and trips to the movies. The boarders had access to optional extension activities this year, including the Year 11 agriculture programme offered through the National Trade Academy. This programme helped develop skills for boys considering farming, as well as delivering unit standard credits to help achieve NCEA Level 2. Other opportunities included AA Defensive

Driving Courses for those Years 12–13 students preparing to sit their full licence, first aid training through St John, and Site Safe and forklift driving certifications via other outside providers. Thank you to Scott Franklin, who helps to coordinate, organise and supervise this programme. This year has been very challenging, and I appreciate that he is always exploring new opportunities for the boys.
