Emotional Wellbeing

Why do some efforts to achieve success feel futile, as if something invisible is holding us back? Often, these barriers don’t come from the outside world but from emotional patterns learned during childhood. This article explores how our relationships with mom and dad shape our mindset and our ability to thrive. The Reflection of Mom and Dad in Your Success Recognizing Invisible Patterns The Invisible Wound: From a young age, we absorb beliefs about money, love, and personal power from our parents. If mom lived in constant sacrifice or dad felt inadequate as a provider, those unconscious ideas become our internal manual for navigating the world. Example: If you grew up hearing “money is the root of all evil,” you might unknowingly develop a rejection of abundance. Another perspective: Perhaps you saw mom exhaust herself for the family, leading you to believe that you’re only valuable if you sacrifice everything for others. These invisible wounds often hide under layers of automatic behaviors, making them hard to identify until we face pivotal moments in adulthood. Big decisions about careers, relationships, or personal projects may be influenced by these inherited beliefs. The Emotional Impact in Adulthood: Unresolved beliefs about our parents often turn into emotional blockages:

Fear of failure: If dad was highly critical, you might avoid taking risks for fear of disappointment. Excessive self-demand: If mom constantly compared herself to others, you may feel like you’re never enough. Inability to enjoy success: If someone else’s success caused jealousy or conflict at home, you might feel guilty when achieving your goals. The emotional impact of these patterns can also manifest physically, through chronic stress, low energy, or even health problems. These reactions remind us that emotional blockages affect not only our mind but also our body.

Page 08

Healing to Unlock Success: Healing is not about blaming but about freeing ourselves from patterns that no longer serve us. Forgiveness: Acknowledge that your parents acted based on what they knew and their own wounds. This step not only relieves resentment but also allows you to release unnecessary burdens. Reprogramming: Replace limiting beliefs with positive affirmations like, “Success and money are tools for well-being, not enemies.” Use these affirmations as daily reminders that you have the power to change your inner narrative. By observing your own patterns, you can also identify positive behaviors you’ve inherited. Perhaps mom taught you the value of hard work, or dad modeled resilience in the face of challenges. Recognizing both limiting and empowering beliefs gives you a complete picture of your emotional inheritance. Ask yourself: Which beliefs about success don’t feel like they’re truly yours? For example, if you realize avoiding conversations about money stems from a family environment where that topic was taboo, you can begin to challenge that belief. Practical exercise: Write a letter to mom and another to dad describing how you perceived their relationship with success and money. This will help you uncover patterns. The first step toward healing is identifying how our experiences with mom and dad shaped our beliefs. Recognizing Family Patterns:

Success doesn’t depend solely on external strategies; it also requires healing our roots. By freeing ourselves from family patterns, we not only unlock our ability to thrive but also honor mom and dad from a place of love and awareness. You can also seek support through therapies like family constellation or cognitive therapy to help unravel deep patterns. The healing process can be challenging but also profoundly transformative. Rituals: Dedicate a moment of your day to thank mom and dad, even if only in thought. Gratitude opens the door to abundance. For example, you might create a space in your home with family photos or write words of gratitude in a journal. When we heal, we create a different legacy for future generations, where success isn’t tied to sacrifice or pain but to fulfillment and joy. The journey to success begins within us, in the decision to embrace our story and transform it into a source of personal power.

Healthy Recipes for a Flavorful Christmas

Light Side Dishes Replace creamy mashed potatoes with cauliflower mash flavored with garlic and a touch of vegan butter. It’s a low-carb, flavorful alternative. Alternatively, roast vegetables like honey-glazed carrots with spices for a natural sweetness and an excellent source of vitamins. Healthy Desserts Use whole wheat flour and natural sweeteners like honey or agave syrup. Add cinnamon, ginger, and nuts for a festive touch. Whole Grain Christmas Cookies

Christmas is often a time of indulgence in food, leaving many people feeling guilty and unwell after the festivities. However, enjoying holiday meals doesn't have to mean neglecting your health. This article will show you how to prepare healthy and delicious recipes that allow you to enjoy the season guilt-free.

The Holiday Dilemma

During Christmas, it's common to associate celebrations with overeating and drinking. This can leave a lingering sense of guilt and physical discomfort. However, the true spirit of the holidays lies not in the quantity of food but in sharing quality moments with loved ones. The key to enjoying the season without compromising your health is making conscious choices about what you consume and adopting a balanced approach. Healthy Options for Traditional Dishes

Roasted Turkey

Swap heavy sauces for a light marinade of herbs, lemon, and olive oil. This not only reduces calories but also enhances the turkey's natural flavor, making it the healthy star of the dinner table. Festive Salads Combine fresh spinach, pomegranate seeds, walnuts, and a light vinaigrette. This dish is not only visually appealing but also packed with antioxidants and healthy fats.

Page 10

Guilt-Free Festive Drinks Refreshing Options: Replace sugary cocktails with sparkling water, lemon slices, and fresh mint. Add berries for a pop of color and flavor. Try fresh fruit skewers dipped in dark chocolate or baked apples stuffed with oats, cinnamon, and a drizzle of honey. These desserts offer warmth and natural sweetness. Fruit-Based Desserts These bars are a simple and nutritious option, perfect for those seeking a dessert without the typical seasonal sugar overload. Oat and Dark Chocolate Bars The Mindful Approach Mindful eating means savoring every bite, appreciating the flavors, and recognizing when you’re satisfied. It’s easy to fall into the habit of mindless eating while chatting or celebrating during Christmas. Special Treats: Opt for hot chocolate made with plant-based milk and pure cocoa, sweetened with stevia or honey. Natural Fruit Punch: Prepare a version with no added sugar using fresh fruits and spices like cinnamon, cloves, and anise. This punch is warm, comforting, and much healthier. Strategies for Mindful Eating: Before eating, take a moment to appreciate the colors and smells of the food. This stimulates your senses and prepares your body for proper digestion.

Eat slowly, chewing each bite thoroughly, and pay attention to your body's signals. This helps prevent overeating. Serve moderate portions and avoid the "full plate syndrome." You can always go back for seconds if you’re genuinely hungry.

Choosing healthy recipes benefits not only your body but also your mind. Feeling light and energized after a holiday dinner allows you to enjoy the moment fully. Eating well improves your mood, enhances rest, and fosters a sense of satisfaction. The Emotional Impact of Healthy Eating During the Holidays

Get Your Family Involved in Cooking

Cooking can become a bonding activity during the holidays. Invite your loved ones to prepare recipes with you. Not only will it make the process more fun, but they’ll also learn healthy options for their own lives. Enjoying Christmas doesn’t mean sacrificing your health. With these recipes and strategies, you can transform your holiday meals into moments of mindful nourishment and celebration. Make this Christmas a time to care for yourself while sharing love and good habits with others. Remember: balance is the best gift you can give yourself. Happy Healthy Christmas!

The importance of The sense of smell

The sense of smell holds a significant role in our lives and can also be utilized beneficially in healing practices. Unlike other senses, scents are experienced even before words, making them deeply connected to our emotions and memories. Beyond simply being a pleasant experience, the power of smell extends to influencing our biochemistry and nervous system in various ways.

Aromatherapy, a practice that utilizes essential oils, has gained popularity for its therapeutic benefits. These oils have the ability to facilitate quick emotional responses, impacting our mood and overall well-being. From relieving stress and stabilizing mood to improving sleep quality and alleviating pain and nausea, essential oils can truly change the way our nervous system functions.

ESSENTIAL OILS CAN FACILITATE A QUICK EMOTIONAL RESPONSE.

Furthermore, essential oils are potent biochemical agents that aid in emotional balance, well-being, and the release of toxins. They can be integrated into comprehensive healing programs or used in conjunction with other treatments to create a successful approach to mental and emotional health. By harnessing the power of scents, we tap into a natural and holistic way of healing and self-care. The aromas we encounter can have profound effects on our minds and body, and embracing the benefits of aromatherapy can lead to a more balanced and harmonious existence. As we continue to explore the potential of scents in healing work, we discover the transformative influence they have on our overall health and wellness.

The Founding and Growth of Othership From Backyard Sauna to Urban Oasis:

1. Who are the founders and what in their lives caused them to have the vision of Othership? There are five of us: me, my wife Emily Bent, and our co-founders and best friends Amanda Laine, Harrison Taylor, and Myles Farmer. We started Othership based on a mutual interest in developing healthier communities. My wife Emily introduced me to the practice of saunas and cold plunges at the beginning of my sobriety journey in 2017. We both found these experiences so impactful that we did it across our travels together for four years, even bringing groups along instead of going to a bar for drinks. Amanda and Harry had also traveled and experienced different sauna techniques as well, and Myles had worked in hospitality for years. pandemic has blossomed into Othership, a revolutionary wellness venture. Founded by Emily Bent and her co-founders—Amanda Laine, Harrison Taylor, Myles Farmer, and the author—Othership emerged from a shared desire to enhance emotional well-being and community connection. This article delves into the origins, rapid growth, and future plans of Othership, highlighting how a simple, impactful idea has evolved into a transformative experience. ice bath in Toronto during the W hat started as a backyard sauna and

At the height of the COVID pandemic, the five of us decided to build an ice bath in my backyard in Toronto. Every night, one of us would work and host a guided ice bath with a fire. And every day, you could just come and use it for free. If you knew where it was, you could just let yourself in. There was a neighbourhood Whatsapp group that grew to 300 people. We added a sauna and began to integrate emotional wellness programming and classes. We discovered that the combination of hot and cold immersion acted as a powerful social tool, breaking down barriers and fostering connection. This became the basis for Othership.

Page 14

2. From vision to opening, how many years/months passed and what were some of the biggest challenges in transitioning from vision to opening? It all happened very quickly. We signed a lease during lockdown and the Adelaide location launched February 2022. Initially, people thought we were nuts, but we knew from the garage how strong the experience was. We knew it would be helpful to people struggling with loneliness and stress, and to help people connect with themselves and one another in new ways. So we took the risk. Expansion happened quickly as well, bringing challenges with it. Building out locations— especially in different regulatory environments— has had a steep learning curve, as has designing and training for our classes. Our goal is making sure they stay authentic and inspire emotional transformation..

5. Where else do you plan on opening locations? We're trying to expand in New York specifically at the moment, and then move on to build opening teams and expand across the Northeast (Boston, Washington, Chicago, and Philadelphia are all on our radar) and then larger markets like Texas, Florida, and California. 6. Is franchising part of the growth plan? Not at the moment. Business priorities over the next year include scaling the team, raising more funding to build out a number of new units in New York, and building an opening team to start opening new markets as well. 7. Other than Canada and the United States, are there other countries you are considering? The plan is really to expand aggressively across the US. We believe that this can work in any city where people are struggling and stressed and will be a great option in all urban environments. We want to create community in other urban environments to make people feel less lonely and to give them a new place to connect.

3. What were/are the target demographics targeted? Othership is a space for all: those who thrive in their busy work life and want to take care of their emotional and physical health, those looking for a community for social well-being, fitness enthusiasts who undergo physical stress and are looking for a place to recover, and all human beings that want to feel better. 4. How many locations currently exist? We currently have three: two thriving locations in Toronto, and our recently-opened Ship in Manhattan’s Flatiron District. We’ve broken ground on a second New York location, which will open in Williamsburg in 2025.

Surrendering doesn’t mean losing; it means letting go of control over what we can’t change and trusting life’s process. For many, this concept is hard to embrace, but surrendering is where we find the peace and wisdom needed to move forward. This article explores how releasing resistance opens doors to a fuller life. Surrender as a Path to Inner Peace HEALTH IS WEALTH MAGAZINE

Personal Growth

The Myth of Surrender

Surrender is often associated with weakness or failure, but in reality, it’s an act of courage. Resisting the inevitable only causes stress, frustration, and emotional exhaustion. Surrendering, on the other hand, means accepting reality and ceasing to fight against it.

Why Do We Resist?

Fear of the Unknown: The idea of letting go fills us with uncertainty. What will happen if we stop fighting? Ego: We believe we must stay in control to prove strength or competence. Expectations: We cling to how things “should” be, preventing us from accepting them as they are. The Benefits of Surrender Inner Peace: Letting go of what we can’t change releases emotional burdens, leaving us lighter and more at peace. Wisdom: Surrender brings perspective. When we stop fighting life, solutions and opportunities become clearer.

Connection to Abundance: Surrendering unblocks life’s natural flow, allowing good things to come effortlessly.

How to Surrender from the Heart

Recognize what you can’t control: List situations causing you stress. Ask yourself: What part of this is beyond my control? Practice acceptance: Accepting doesn’t mean agreeing; it means acknowledging the current reality.

HEALTH IS WEALTH MAGAZINE

Symbolic Ritual: Light a candle and, while watching it, say, “I surrender my resistance and trust life’s wisdom.”

How Surrender Transforms Your Life

You conserve energy by focusing on what truly matters.

Your mind clears, making room for creativity and intuition.

You experience freedom by letting go of unrealistic expectations.

Stories of Transformation Through Surrender

A man facing financial struggles found unexpected solutions when he stopped resisting and asked for help. A woman who used to control every detail of her life discovered peace and improved relationships by letting go.

Trust the process: Remember that life has its rhythm and not everything depends on you. Trust that things will resolve in the best way. Meditation for surrender: Spend a few minutes daily repeating: “I release control, and I trust life.” Surrender Journal: Each night, write down what you can’t control and say aloud: “Today, I choose to release this and trust.” Practical Exercises for Surrender Visualization: Imagine holding a rope representing your worries, then visualize letting it go and feeling relief.

Reflections on Surrender:

Surrender does not mean inaction. On the contrary, it is a conscious act of releasing what is beyond our control while taking action on what we can change. Many philosophies and spiritual traditions highlight the importance of letting go as a path to enlightenment or inner peace. In nature, everything flows without resistance. A river doesn’t fight against rocks; it simply flows around them and continues its journey. Surrender is not a defeat; it is an act of self- love and trust in life. By letting go of what we cannot control, we find peace, clarity, and abundance. This Christmas, choose to surrender to the wisdom of the universe and allow life to flow in harmony with you. The peace you seek lies in the act of letting go.

Youth Development

Adolescence and Rebellion

Adolescence is a complex stage for both teens and parents. It’s a period of self- discovery where rebellion often seems to be the norm. But why do teenagers feel like they know everything and frequently challenge authority? This article explores the roots of this behavior and how parents can approach it with empathy and connection. The Teenage Brain: The Science Behind Rebellion During adolescence, the brain undergoes significant changes, particularly in the prefrontal cortex, responsible for decision- making and impulse control. Simultaneously, the limbic system, which regulates emotions, is highly active, explaining why teens are more emotional and impulsive. This imbalance between intense emotions and the ability to reason through them often leads to rebellious behaviors. The Need for Independence At this stage, teens seek to define their identity by distancing themselves from authority figures, primarily their parents. Rebellion is their way of asserting independence and proving they can make their own decisions. Phrases like “I know what I’m doing” or “Leave me alone” reflect their desire to be taken seriously and recognized as capable individuals. Why Do Teens Feel Like They Know It All?

The Clash with Family Expectations

Teenagers often feel that parents don’t understand their world or internal struggles, creating an emotional gap that intensifies rebellion. On the other hand, parents may feel frustrated when their advice or decisions, which they believe to be correct, are rejected by their children. Beneath the defiant attitude often lies insecurity, fear of failure, or a need for approval that teens don’t know how to express. The Wound Behind Rebellion For example: A teen who constantly challenges rules may be seeking attention or validation they aren’t receiving directly. Rebellion becomes their way of communicating what they can’t articulate in words.

Page 26

How Parents Can Handle Rebellion with Empathy

Guide them toward resources such as books or mentors that inspire and help them grow.

Active Listening: Instead of immediately responding, listen to what your teen is trying to communicate. Sometimes rebellion is simply a way of expressing unresolved emotions. Validate Their Feelings: Acknowledge their emotions, even if you don’t agree with their actions. This helps build an emotional bridge. Set Clear but Flexible Boundaries: Teens need structure, but they also need space to make decisions. Negotiate rules that give them some autonomy while maintaining control.

Remember that rebellion doesn’t last forever; it’s a transitional phase toward adulthood. Being patient and maintaining a loving yet firm stance helps teens feel they can always rely on you, even when they make mistakes. Patience as a Key Tool Teen rebellion is not a personal attack on parents but a reflection of their quest for identity and independence. Addressing it with empathy, patience, and emotional connection can turn this period of conflict into an opportunity to strengthen family relationships. Remember: Behind every defiant teenager is a human being who just wants to be understood and accepted. The key is building bridges, not walls, and walking together toward a healthier and more harmonious relationship.

Fostering Dialogue and Connection

Spend time on activities you both enjoy, like sports, music, or movies, to create moments of connection and strengthen your relationship. Ask open-ended questions like, “How do you feel about what’s happening?” instead of “Why do you always do this?” Share your own teenage experiences to show them you understand what they’re going through. Helping Teens Manage Their Independence Teach them to make responsible decisions by giving them small opportunities, like managing their time or money. Boost their self-esteem by recognizing their accomplishments, no matter how small.

How to Create an Effective Plan for 2025 Each new year comes with the promise of a fresh start, yet our goals often remain unfulfilled due to a lack of proper planning. Creating an effective plan for 2025 will not only help you stay focused but will also enable you to achieve your objectives with clarity and purpose. This article will guide you step by step in designing a successful year filled with meaningful accomplishments.

Many people start the year with enthusiasm, but their goals are vague or unrealistic, leading to early abandonment. The common mistake when setting goals: Example: Saying, “I want to be healthier” lacks direction and clear action, making it difficult to measure progress. To transform this idea, you need to define what "being healthier" means and how to achieve it. Step 1: Reflect on the past year: Before planning for the future, analyze the past. Ask yourself: What did I achieve this year? What prevented me from reaching certain goals? What did I learn from my experiences?

This reflection will help you identify patterns and necessary adjustments for the new year. For example, if a lack of time held you back, explore better ways to manage your priorities.

Step 2: Define clear and specific goals: Use the SMART method: Specific: Instead of “I want to save money,” specify how much and for what purpose.

Page 30

Measurable: Ensure you can track your progress. Achievable: Be realistic about your capabilities and resources. Relevant: Align your goals with your values and dreams. Time-bound: Set specific deadlines for your objectives. Large goals can be overwhelming unless broken down into manageable actions. Step 3: Break goals into smaller steps: Example: “I want to save $5,000 for a trip by depositing $200 monthly into a savings account.” This approach eliminates ambiguity and allows you to measure your progress. Be mindful of negative thoughts or procrastination, and replace them with positive affirmations. An organized and distraction-free workspace can make a significant difference. Example: If your goal is to exercise, avoid skipping workouts by setting a fixed schedule or joining a group. Step 5: Eliminate distractions and blockers: Identify habits or environments that hinder your progress. Use tools like calendars, apps, or journals to monitor your progress. Establish regular checkpoints (monthly or quarterly) to evaluate if you’re on track. Adjust your goals as needed. For instance, if saving $200 monthly becomes challenging, lower the amount temporarily and explore ways to increase your income. Each small achievement reinforces your motivation to keep going. Step 4: Create a tracking system: Example: If your goal is to write a book, divide the process into steps like “research,” “write one chapter per month,” and “edit.”

Share your goals with inspiring and supportive people. Consider working with a mentor or coach to stay focused. Join communities, online or local, that reinforce your objectives. For instance, if you aim to improve your cooking skills, you could join a cooking club. Step 6: Surround yourself with support:

Step 7: Reward your achievements:

Design a reward system to motivate yourself at each stage. Rewards don’t have to be material; they could be activities you enjoy, like a day off or a special outing. Recognizing your efforts reinforces the habit of planning and achieving goals, associating effort with positive emotions.

Step 8: The impact of planning your year:

A clear plan reduces stress and gives you a sense of control. Every small success boosts your confidence and motivates you to keep moving forward. A well-designed plan not only helps you achieve goals but also teaches discipline and focus. Planning for 2025 isn’t just about writing goals on paper—it’s about committing to a process that leads to success. Reflect, set clear objectives, break them into small steps, and create a tracking system. By doing so, you’ll not only design a successful year but also pave the way for a more fulfilling life. Remember: a dream with a plan becomes a reality.

The Art of Forgiveness: Free Yourself This Christmas

Christmas is a time for unity and reflection, but for many, it can also be a reminder of unhealed wounds. Facing these feelings may seem overwhelming, but forgiveness is the key to freeing ourselves from emotional burdens and making room for love and peace. This article explores the transformative power of forgiveness and how it can change your life.

The Impact of Forgiveness on Our Lives: Holding onto resentment may feel empowering in the moment, but in the long run, it only harms us. Physical: Studies show forgiveness reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, and boosts the immune system. Emotional: Letting go of resentments allows us to experience inner peace and genuine happiness. Relational: Forgiveness restores relationships and creates stronger, more authentic bonds. How to Begin the Forgiveness Process: Acknowledge Your Emotions: Start by recognizing how you feel. What emotions does the wound trigger?

The Burden of Not Forgiving:

Many people carry resentments that affect their relationships, decisions, and even their health. Resentment acts like a chain, keeping us tied to the past and preventing us from moving forward toward a fulfilling life. For example, an unresolved argument with a family member can create tension during holiday gatherings, limiting authentic connection. Why Forgiveness is So Hard: The fear of vulnerability or the desire to be right often stops us from taking the first step. We often confuse forgiveness with justifying what was done to us. But forgiveness doesn’t mean accepting the harm—it means freeing ourselves from its control.

Page 32

Shift Perspectives: Ask yourself, “What might have caused the other person to act this way?” This doesn’t excuse their behavior but helps to understand it. Write a Letter: Even if you don’t deliver it, putting your feelings into words can be a liberating exercise. Forgiveness is Not Always Immediate: Each small step toward forgiveness is an act of self-love. You don’t have to force it; you just need to be willing to try. Remember, forgiveness is a gift you give to yourself, not necessarily to the person who hurt you. Time plays a crucial role—forgiveness is a process, not an instant event. Perform a Symbolic Act: Light a candle and say aloud, “I choose to forgive to free myself and move forward.” The Connection Between Forgiveness and Christmas: Christmas is a time to reflect on our relationships and how we can heal the wounds that separate us. It’s a season that reminds us of the importance of love, compassion, and connection, with forgiveness as a key tool to achieve these. Stories of Transformation Through Forgiveness: People who found peace by letting go of resentment: Forgiving not only restores our relationships but also enhances the Christmas spirit, allowing us to celebrate with a lighter heart. A woman who, after years of not speaking to her father, decided to forgive him and built a new relationship that changed both of their lives. A man who stopped blaming his ex-partner for his emotional struggles and, in doing so, found love again.

These stories show that forgiveness not only liberates the giver but can also transform the receiver. Families divided by resentment have reunited to rebuild holiday traditions and recover the spirit of unity. Practical Forgiveness Rituals for Christmas: Gratitude Circle: Gather family or friends, light candles, and share words of gratitude and forgiveness for those who have supported you throughout the year. Forgiveness is not just an action—it’s an act of liberation and love toward ourselves. This Christmas, choose to let go of resentment, heal your wounds, and make room for peace and connection. By forgiving, you not only transform your life but also those of the people around you. Remember, forgiveness is the most valuable gift you can give and receive. Dare to embrace it and make this Christmas a moment of true spiritual renewal. Forgiveness Meditation: Sit in a quiet space, close your eyes, and visualize the person you wish to forgive. Imagine sending them light and love while repeating, “I release you, I release myself. I choose peace.”
