Dividing 3-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers

1 Leon finds a bag full of 1-cent coins in his drawer. He counts the coins and finds a total of 384 coins. There are 24 learners in Leon’s class. If he divided the coins equally among his classmates, how much would each learner receive?

Step 1 Divide 38 tens by 24.

1 24 3 8 4 − 2 4 1 4 1 6 24 3 8 4 − 2 4 1 4 4 − 1 4 4 0

38 tens ÷ 24 = 1 ten remainder 14 tens 38 tens − 24 tens = 14 tens Step 2 Next, divide 144 ones by 24.

144 ones ÷ 24 = 6 ones 144 ones − 144 ones = 0

So, 384 ÷ 24 = 16.
