Leon says that 4 ones × 2 = 8 ones or 8, so 4 tens × 2 = 8 tens or 80. Do you agree? What other connections can you make between multiplying a number of ones and multiplying the same number of tens?

Look at this array.

1

It shows that 3 × 4 = 12 It also shows that 4 × 3 = 12 So, 3 × 4 = 4 × 3

Let’s look at another array.

2

It shows that 3 × 14 = 52 It also shows that 14 × 3 = 52 So, 3 × 14 = 14 × 3

Check the answer on a calculator. Explain the steps you take.
