Max Maths - Making Real-World Connections SB3 FULL

Unit 15 – The four operations

Dividing 2-digit numbers

Use blocks or counters to explore Carl’s idea. Do you agree? What connections do you notice between these divisions?

1 The arrays represent two division calculations. What is the same and what is different about them?

18 ÷ 3 = 6

19 ÷ 3 = 6 r 1

When 19 is divided by 3 there is a left-over. We call this a remainder.

2 We can use multiplication facts to help solve divisions. We know that 10 × 5 = 50 75 is 25 more than 50. We know that 5 × 5 = 25 So there are 15 groups of 5 in 75. Check the answer on a calculator. Explain the steps you take.
