Unit 17 – Shapes and angles

2 One of the shapes in question 1 is left over. Complete your own table to show the properties of the shape.

3 Draw four line segments to make a rectangle. Label the line segments.

(a) Which line segments make up the shorter sides? (b) Which line segments make up the longer sides?

E

Carefully fold a piece of paper in half. Use a ruler to help you draw three straight lines on one side of the paper. Start the first line at the fold and finish the third line at the fold. Cut along the lines.

Before you unfold the paper, explain to a partner what the shape will look like and what you think it is called. Open the shape. How can you describe it? Remember to think about angles and draw the lines of symmetry. Is it possible to draw three straight lines to make a shape with right angles and more than one line of symmetry? Explore your ideas.
