Unit 10 – Length, perimeter and area

3 Solve these problems. Will you need to convert any measurements? (a) How much longer is 9 m than 750 cm? (b) The height of a tree is double the height of a bush. The bush is 250 cm. How tall is the tree? (c) The distance between villages A and B is 4 km. A car travels 1000 m from village A. How much further does it need to go to reach village B?

Work in a small group. Try out this investigation outside. How much further can you throw a bean bag from a standing position than from a sitting position? What will you use to help you measure? Which units will you choose? Make a table to record your results. What does the information tell you? Can you answer the original question?
