Unit 11 – Shapes and angles

E

Represent 90° angles in different ways. Think about sketching on grid paper, using a geoboard, a set square and a computer drawing program. Try to show the right angles in different positions.

Circles

1 A circle has one curved side and no angles. We use special words to talk about circles.

circumference

centre

diameter

radius

We can use a compass to help draw circles. Place the point of the compass at the centre of the circle we want to draw. The distance between the point and the pencil shows the radius of the circle. We make a full turn of the compass about the fixed point so that the pencil draws the circumference.
