Unit 12 – Capacity and mass

2 We can use what we know about relationships between units of measure to help solve problems. Leon’s school bag has a mass of 3 kg 500 g when it is packed. How many grams is that? 3 kg = 3 000 g So, 3kg 500g = 3000g + 500g = 3 500 g Leon’s bag has a mass of 3 500 g.

Now look at these problems. A ball has a mass of 300 g. What is the total mass of 9 of these balls? A bag of pet food has a mass of 6 kg. How many 100 g servings will there be? The total mass of 4 chairs is 500 g lighter than the mass of a table. The mass of 1 chair is 6 kg. What is the mass of the table?
