$35 + $15 total a multiple of $10. $21 + $22 is a near double. The four items total $93 $93 + $7 = $100 So, $100 − $93 = $7 The change is $7 Talk about other methods you could use to find the total and change. How can you represent the problem with blocks or with coins and notes? 2 Look at the cost of the items that Gran buys. They are slightly different.
Why will the total cost be more than the estimate 20 + 30 = 50? Let’s add the dollars first. $34 + $24 = $34 + $20 + $4 = $54 + $4 = $58 100 cents is equal to $1, so the total is $59 and 35 cents. Gran pays for the items with the notes from her purse. How much change will there be? Explain the strategy you used to work it out. $24.75
