You will need: weighing scales and weights dry rice or beans (or other everyday objects) empty food packets In groups or pairs, choose 5 different empty food packets. Select items with a range of different shapes and sizes. Task 1: Read each packet to find out the original mass of the food packet when it was full. Put the packets in order of mass, from lightest to heaviest. Task 2: Can you refill the packet to the correct weight using dry rice or beans? Use weighing scales. Talk to your group about whether the amount of space that the rice takes up is the same as the original contents of the packet.
