There are two different ways to measure the size of a 2D shape. The first way is to measure the length around the outside of the shape. This is called the perimeter . The second way is to measure the amount of space inside the shape. This is called area . 7 cm

Perimeter = 7cm + 2cm + 7cm + 2cm = 16 cm The area of a shape is found by counting the number of centimetre squares inside the shape.

Each square is 1 square centimetre. There are 14 square centimetres in my shape. It has an area of 14 square centimetres.
