Module 3: Enhancing Touchpoints with Contagious Content and Community Conversation Unit 3: Campaign Challenges for Community Excitement
particular hashtag. This helps your content reach a wider audience beyond just your followers. By using relevant and popular hashtags, your content becomes discoverable to people who might not be following you but are interested in the topic you've posted about. Increased Engagement . Using hashtags can lead to higher levels of engagement on your posts. When people find your content through a hashtag and it aligns with their interests, they are more likely to engage with it. Engagement can come in the form of likes, comments, shares, and follows. Additionally, if your posts receive more engagement, the algorithms on certain platforms may push your content to a broader audience, further increasing its visibility. Targeted Audience Connection . Hashtags allow you to connect with like- minded individuals and potential customers or clients who share an interest in the topics you post about. When you consistently use specific hashtags related to your niche or industry, you build a community around those interests. This targeted approach can help you foster meaningful connections with people who are genuinely interested in what you have to say or offer. Joining Trending Conversations . Trending hashtags represent popular and current topics of discussion. By using these hashtags, you can participate in ongoing conversations and trends, tapping into larger audiences engaged in those discussions. It's a way to stay relevant and be part of real-time conversations on social media. Branding and Campaigns . Brands often use unique hashtags to promote specific campaigns, events, or product launches. This can help create a sense of exclusivity
and encourage followers to participate in the campaign, share related content, and engage with the brand. Memorable and well-promoted hashtags can become associated with your brand identity. Creating Effective Hashtags The key to creating hashtags for challenge campaigns is to coin terms that are catchy and encapsulate the essence of the challenge. Consider the widely successful campaign hashtags #IceBucketChallenge or #RealDadMoments garnering 44M and 14M views, respectively. Three words imply the gist of the campaign in a very
memorable way. Similarly, #BustedinChurch suggests a provocative take on awkward Church moments that is likely to be remembered when spreading the word about the campaign. When creating a draft of your own challenge hashtag candidates (Slide #2), consider the following: • Will your audience likely recognize its intent? • Does it resonate with trending topics in your assigned business segment? • Can you turn the phrase into something memorable? Try “sounds like…” or rhymes with…” (e.g., an impressive campaign used for an earlier quail eggs campaign use the hashtag “CracktheCode”). Later we will consider some modifications to you draft selections based on an exercise for ensuring the term is aligned with the slogan used in your storytelling project.
