vs. 43, 44. "Now after (add, the) two days tie departed thence, and went (went forth from thence) into Galilee: (.) For Jesus Himself testified, that a prophet hath nd honor in his own c o u n t r y Jesus .had had a hearty and responsive hearing in Samaria (vs. 40-42). There had been a glorious revival there, but His heart yearned for His own people in Nazareth where He had grown up, and He returned to Galilee. It would be little, use to go to them before He had established a repu tation elsewhere, for He Himself testified that “a prophet hath no honor in his own country.” Human nature is so petty; it will not forgive a man for surpassing his neigh bors until he has been well received else where. But Jesus had now demonstrated His power at the Capital, and Galilee
will now listen. Indeed, Galilee will be the great scene of His victories. The two days mentioned in these verses are the two days spoken of in v. 40. This comes out plainly in the definite article “the” which is omitted in the Authorized Version, but found in the Greek text and the Revised Version. Prob ably the earlier part of the narrative in the Synoptic Gospels (Mark 1:14-2:14 and parallel passages), belongs to the same period as what is recorded in these verses in John to chapter 5:1. The contents of this section of John are peculiar to him. v. 45. “Then (So) when He was come (came) into Galilee, the Galileans received Him, having seen all the things that He did at Jerusalem at the feast:-for they also went unto the feast.” The Galileans, who on His former visit had not received Him
