SPRING SHOWERS BROUGHT MAY AND JUNE FLOWERS!
It’s Time for Pruning and Trimming!
It was a wet spring, but here’s the good news — all that rain, snow, sleet, and moisture promoted growth! Many plants, trees, flowers, and weeds took off and are now growing and blooming like crazy. Now it’s time to trim your foliage, trees, and flowers, not only to keep everything looking tidy but also to ensure that your property (and home) doesn’t experience late-season storm damage from your favorite trees and bushes!
risk level and prune when necessary. By reducing the size of the tree’s crown and thinning the canopy
by removing dead branches, we can reduce the wind- catching ability of your trees. We believe proactive pruning is ALWAYS better than reactive trimming, cutting, and removal after a nasty storm has passed through the area.
We’ve also been keeping our large commercial forestry grapple truck busy! We specialize in large, commercial tree takedowns, and our grapple truck allows us to reach up to 70 feet into the air and make a cut, all by the power of remote control technology. The
Here at Trout Brook Landscaping, shrub and tree pruning is our specialty, and as Arborists, we have familiarity with all different types of vegetation that grows and thrives in West Hartford. Our crew has the career experience to shape and mold your trees. Because pruning is so vital for some of our clients with thicker vegetation and foliage, we visit their homes twice a year to prune and keep up with the growth. Others follow an annual pruning schedule, and since trees, bushes, and plants can be pruned any time throughout the year, it’s always a good time to call and schedule your pruning appointment with us! Along with the warm summer months come violent evening thunderstorms that produce strong winds and lightning here in New England. We focus on “risk reduction pruning” to ensure that your trees (and homes) are safe from damage during unpredictable weather. Our crew understands the risk of bad weather on your trees and is prepared to evaluate their
grapple truck has undoubtedly come in handy with our summer camp projects around the state. We’ve worked for Camp Mattatuck, Camp Jewell, and a few YMCA camps. We love participating in commercial or large-scale tree removal projects to keep our people of Connecticut safe and deliver significant value with less danger and labor.
Give us a call today at 860-888-8472! We are ready to help you with all your tree care or removal needs!
We are proud to have been named Best Arborist 2023 by Best of Hartford Magazine!

BEST WAYS TO BREW IN THE WILD How to Make Coffee While You Camp
Whether you need to recover from a stellar night around the campfire or fuel up for a blissful mountaintop meditation session, you’ll need a quick way to make coffee. Easy to travel with and perfect for outdoor nomads, these fuss- free coffee brewing tools make that moment in nature even better. Portable Pour-Overs While instant coffee packets are a tried-and-true method, we can all agree that they aren’t the epitome of fine-quality coffee. For the same ease but better taste, try single-serving pour-over coffee. These innovative products consist of a paper pour-over stand that perfectly fits on top of a mug. Lightweight and portable, this method gives you a pour-over coffee taste with the convenience of instant coffee. We recommend brands like Kuju and Copper Cow Coffee for their excellent flavors, like bourbon and Vietnamese coffee. Cowboy Coffee The epitome of “no-nonsense,” cowboy coffee requires only a pot, water, and ground coffee. All you need to do is boil some water, add the coffee grounds, wait until they sink to the bottom, and enjoy! With a rich, robust flavor, cowboy coffee may not be the best option for casual frappuccino drinkers. Yet, it provides a good cup of joe for those sleeping under the stars. AeroPress Coffee When you buy an AeroPress, you get full-bodied coffee whenever your heart desires. If you’re a coffee connoisseur, then you probably already know about
AeroPress. If you haven’t heard of it or need more convincing, this small gadget requires little effort for delectable brews. The AeroPress is shaped like a tube with a filter at the bottom and an accompanying plunger cylinder to press the coffee. Just add ground coffee and water to the tube, then press down with the cylinder. Coffee will drip through and have you questioning why you ever spent $7 on a latte. Get your AeroPress from their official website (AeroPress.com) or a big box store! Don’t let the ruggedness of the outdoors ever stop you from enjoying a nice, smooth cup of coffee. You can bring your favorite caffeine fix to forest trails, mountaintops, and sandy shores.

Since then, we have acquired the help of loyal, long-term team members. They have taken it upon themselves to learn about trees and equipment with a passion. Rick Caldwell is a seasoned tree foreman with over 25 years of experience in the industry and five years with the company. Ian Fay, our salesman, also has five years with the company and has grown our client database to over 3,000 homeowners. With a vast network both in the tree world and in the community, we have been able to grow through various tropical storms and weather events that require an emergency response — one of my favorite parts of the business. Helping those in need is a win-win for us. Not only do we feel great serving people in urgent times of need, but we also keep one day each month open for donation to a local faith or youth facility. We support the Boy Scouts, YMCA camps, synagogues, and churches in town because I know where we came from and what it will take to make our community successful in 2023 and beyond.
I have always loved the natural beauty of our wonderful outdoors. Upon entering third grade, I followed in my father and grandfather’s footsteps and joined the Boy Scouts. Over time, I developed a strong sense of mission, service, and belonging to our local community. As part of the curriculum, the Boy Scouts are required to have a detailed knowledge of plant life and outdoor skills. I was a natural thrill seeker and enjoyed climbing trees to tie the tarps and running point man on the sleigh in the Klondike snow race. Upon attaining Eagle Scout status and graduating high school, I was ready to venture into the professional world and created the seed of what would be Trout Brook. ARBORISTS With the help of a buddy and an old Jeep, I mowed and mulched my way through the neighborhood. Through
a decadelong period of endless hours walking behind a lawn mower and wheelbarrow and with more than my share of breakdowns and scrape-bys, I gained humility and wisdom. With a little more time and with a steady crew, my developing business acumen allowed me to see the profession of Arborist was calling my name. Clients constantly had a need for pruning to prevent storm damage. But to break into the tree industry, I knew we had to work hard. In 2015, I became a licensed Arborist in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Many don’t know, but the Mass Arborists program, with a progressive partnership of the private sector and academia, is at the forefront of tree science. Armed with this credential, confidence, and iron determination, Trout Brook Arborists took form.
