Since then, we have acquired the help of loyal, long-term team members. They have taken it upon themselves to learn about trees and equipment with a passion. Rick Caldwell is a seasoned tree foreman with over 25 years of experience in the industry and five years with the company. Ian Fay, our salesman, also has five years with the company and has grown our client database to over 3,000 homeowners. With a vast network both in the tree world and in the community, we have been able to grow through various tropical storms and weather events that require an emergency response — one of my favorite parts of the business. Helping those in need is a win-win for us. Not only do we feel great serving people in urgent times of need, but we also keep one day each month open for donation to a local faith or youth facility. We support the Boy Scouts, YMCA camps, synagogues, and churches in town because I know where we came from and what it will take to make our community successful in 2023 and beyond.

I have always loved the natural beauty of our wonderful outdoors. Upon entering third grade, I followed in my father and grandfather’s footsteps and joined the Boy Scouts. Over time, I developed a strong sense of mission, service, and belonging to our local community. As part of the curriculum, the Boy Scouts are required to have a detailed knowledge of plant life and outdoor skills. I was a natural thrill seeker and enjoyed climbing trees to tie the tarps and running point man on the sleigh in the Klondike snow race. Upon attaining Eagle Scout status and graduating high school, I was ready to venture into the professional world and created the seed of what would be Trout Brook. ARBORISTS With the help of a buddy and an old Jeep, I mowed and mulched my way through the neighborhood. Through

a decadelong period of endless hours walking behind a lawn mower and wheelbarrow and with more than my share of breakdowns and scrape-bys, I gained humility and wisdom. With a little more time and with a steady crew, my developing business acumen allowed me to see the profession of Arborist was calling my name. Clients constantly had a need for pruning to prevent storm damage. But to break into the tree industry, I knew we had to work hard. In 2015, I became a licensed Arborist in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Many don’t know, but the Mass Arborists program, with a progressive partnership of the private sector and academia, is at the forefront of tree science. Armed with this credential, confidence, and iron determination, Trout Brook Arborists took form.
