There Was No Other Career for Me! HOW I KEEP MY FAMILY LEGACY THRIVING
As a third-generation painter, I can’t imagine a different line of work for myself. It was definitely destiny — I share the painting profession with not just one grandfather but both of them! While I wanted to continue my family’s legacy, painting was also a trade I had
order to get my own painting company up and running. I was working as much as I could in a single day. From age 21 to 25, I worked two full-time jobs. In the
mornings, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., I helped paint with my dad. Then, from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m., I waited tables and saved all the tips I could get! As you can imagine, I was burned out by 25. Fortunately, my hard work paid off, and I was able to start my own residential painting business. I bought a few vans, trained a small team, and made us the local experts on residential house painting and staining. After building my trust within the community and growing my business, I saw my team painting over 300 homes a year. I wanted Huskey’s Paint & Design to set the standard for professionalism and quality painting, and now I’m thrilled to see my company grow. I first decided on residential homes because I never wanted to be a business competitor with my family. Then, I lost my father last fall. I couldn’t let his legacy disappear, so I decided to grow my company and care for his commercial projects. Now, I’m expanding a business to a size that none of my family experienced and setting a new standard in the Huskey family. With a new infrastructure and 20 painters on an ever-expanding team, I know my grandfathers and dad are proud of what I’ve done for the family. A mix of fate and hard work brought me here today, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Huskey’s Paint & Design. I hope we become our community’s go-to painting team so I can keep the Huskey legacy alive and thriving for as long as I can! — Trent Huskey
genuinely enjoyed since my childhood. I grew up learning how to paint from the very best, and as I grew older, it just became clearer and clearer that this was the career path for me. When I was 15, I spent my summers painting and wood staining on residential projects. My mom’s father owned a painting company, while my father and his father shared their own painting business. As a teen, I would spend half of my summers working with one grandfather and the other half learning even more with my other grandfather. Even my uncle was painting with my dad and grandfather! It was indeed a family business that I had no intention of cutting short.
By my 17th birthday, my father started his own commercial painting business. He would work on local staples like Western Carolina University, Harrah’s Cherokee Casino, hospitals, hotels, and more. I was inspired by my dad’s tenacity and hard work. That’s why I made sure to get my hours clocked in and money saved in

Ocean Activities the Entire Family Will Love MASTER THE WAVES
Summer has finally arrived, and many of us will be going on weeklong excursions to the coast to get some much-needed rest and relaxation by the beach. For years, the beach has been one of the most popular summertime destinations for Americans, with millions of us flocking to the coast every year. If you’re planning to hit the sand this summer, you should prepare some exciting activities, so you and your family or travel partners can create memories that will last a lifetime. Here are a few oceanside activities you’ll want to check out on your vacation.
the underwater world. You’ll be able to spot fish, crustaceans, and other sea life without needing extensive training. Those who regularly go snorkeling see it as a form of therapy that helps them relieve stress and anxiety. Feeling more relaxed and at peace will help make your vacation feel even more magical. Grab a board. If you want to experience something slightly more intense, you can try some of the many ocean activities involving a board. First-time ocean-goers will love using a boogie board or bodyboard to ride the waves into shore. Those who are more experienced may enjoy surfing for the first time or renting a standing paddleboard. Many beaches on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts have paddleboard rentals or surfing lessons. Be on the lookout at your vacation destination if you want to take advantage of these exciting activities. Tour the ocean. You may want to get away from the beach and experience open waters beyond the shore. If that’s the case, you’ll want to see if your vacation destination offers glass-bottom boat or submarine tours. Some beaches even have whale-watching adventures, which provide an excellent opportunity to see some of nature’s largest creatures in their natural habitat.
Explore through snorkeling. Many people want to try scuba diving while on vacation but don’t have the time, training, and finances required to go on an excursion. That being said, you can get pretty close to the scuba-diving experience by snorkeling. Using a snorkel in the ocean, especially in flat water, is a great way to explore
The Benefits of Regular Power Washing PROTECT YOUR HOME AND YOUR WALLET
While power washing might seem like an optional indulgence, it’s one of the best ways to protect your most significant investment: your home. Power washing can help improve both the appearance and durability of your home’s exterior. And you’ll probably be shocked to learn that regular power washing can actually save you money in the long run. Mildew can deteriorate your home. Contaminants like mildew, mold, algae, and grime can grow on your home, whether they find a home on the siding, fencing, or patios. These contaminants aren’t just unsightly, though — they’re also damaging. Power washing is an excellent preventive measure to hold off on expensive repairs for as long as possible. We all know just how pricey home renovations can be! Paint will crack without a good power wash. Aside from protecting your home, you must power wash if you plan to paint anytime
soon. If you paint your home despite a dirty exterior, the paint can easily chip or crack. You’ll see the best painting results if you power wash your home beforehand. It’s better to save money by doing the project right the first time instead of having to repaint constantly. You can keep your family healthy. While a bit of dirt never hurts anyone, mold buildup can become a health risk for you,
your family, and even your pets. According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, the most common allergy triggers are pollen, mold, and dust mites, which can all grow outside your residence. Frequent power washing can ease your family’s seasonal allergies and ensure better breathing. You’ll increase your home’s value. Power washing can enhance your curb appeal and your property’s overall value. The National Association of Realtors revealed that power washing your home could possibly add up to $15,000 to your sale price. Of course, this added value is more likely for homeowners who regularly maintain the upkeep of their exterior. If you or someone you know is interested in improving their home’s value and saving money, call our expert power washing team at (828) 214-7100 to learn more!

Check Out Some of America’s Best Zoos MONKEY AROUND THIS SUMMER
Summer is one of the best times of the year to travel. Kids are out of school and want to do something fun every weekend, which can be difficult to accommodate if you’ve already exhausted your local options. If you’re looking to travel, you can visit a beach, take in the sights and sounds of an amusement park, or spend some time with animals while visiting a zoo. Nearly every state in our country has a handful of zoos or aquariums, but some stand above the rest. Here are three of the best zoos you can visit in the U.S. Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium The Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha, Nebraska, is consistently ranked as one of the top five zoos in the world. It prides itself on hosting rare, endangered
animals you can’t see elsewhere. It has the world’s largest nocturnal exhibit, and one of the major highlights is the Desert Dome, an 84,000-square-foot indoor desert that maintains an authentic desert ecosystem. This is a must-visit for any animal lover in your family. The Bronx Zoo You don’t usually think about seeing exotic animals when you visit New York City, but the Bronx Zoo is one of the best places to view animals in America. Opened in 1899, the Bronx Zoo is responsible for many of the advancements relating to animal captivity. This was one of the first zoos to ditch cages for natural environments and create an animal hospital. With over 6,000 species, there’s an animal for everyone at the Bronx Zoo.
The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens While the San Diego Zoo is often boasted as California’s largest and best zoo, another zoo is worth checking out. The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens outside Palm Springs has entertained visitors for decades. There are events at this zoo every day, one of the most popular being the keeper connections and animal encounters, where you get up close and personal with the animals while learning more about their habitats and lifestyles.
