Celebrating the Women of Blue Spares Back in March we celebrated International Women's Day by paying tribute to the talented women we have working within the business.

In this issue

Our most recent winner of the ‘Ray Thomas Colleague of the Year’ award, Sap Riley, has been with Blue Spares for six years. Sap does a fantastic job of providing assistance to our sales colleagues, whilst leading our customer service team to ensure that our customers are receiving the highest levels of service. Finally, we have Hannah France who heads up Health & Safety for the Group. Hannah has made a massive impact in a relatively short space of time with Blue. She has done a remarkable job of improving the Health & Safety culture throughout the Blue businesses and just recently managed to help both Blue Spares and Blue Central achieve their RoSPA Gold Awards for 2022. Ian Webber comments: “A huge thanks to the ladies at Blue Spares for doing an excellent job day in day out. They play a massive part within the continued success of Blue Spares. These women are some of the most talented and loyal people within our industry.”

Maria is also studying for a CIMA qualification in her spare time. Heather works within our procurement function, working closely with a number of our suppliers and ensures we offer great service to our sales colleagues and customers alike. Liz Culshaw is our Accounts Manager and has also been with the business for over 15 years. Liz is another vital member within our finance team, winning ‘Finance Colleague of the Year’ in 2021. Liz does an excellent job and is constantly exceeding challenging targets in relation to our working capital and is very well respected by our customers and colleagues. Jordana Igoe is a relatively new member of the team, joining us in March 2021. She originally joined on a temporary contract but impressed so much that she was made a permanent member of the finance team, as an Accounts Payable & Finance Administrator. Jordana is currently studying her AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Level 4 in her free time.

Blue Spares has grown to become a leading spare parts provider within our industries and the amazing women we have within the team play a massive part in our continued success. Our ladies are occupying key roles within every department you look, with the last two ‘Ray Thomas Colleague of the Year’ awards going to women within the team. Helen Culshaw has been with the business for over 15 years and does an excellent job of heading up our procurement team. Helen picked up the Colleague of the Year award in 2020 and is extremely well respected across our supply base, customers and colleagues across all the Blue businesses for her can-do approach and commitment to Blue Spares. Maria Stones and Heather Bailey have both recently gone off on maternity leave, with Maria having a beautiful baby girl named Ruby. Maria is our Assistant Management Account and has been an integral part of the finance team for some years now.

Blue Central and Blue Spares Achieve the RoSPA Gold Award We’re delighted to announce that both Blue Central and Blue Spares have been awarded with the RoSPA Gold Awards for 2022. Over the course of 2021 Blue Central and Blue Spares have been progressing their health and safety culture. Despite the challenge of Covid, staff engagement has been a focus and several new platforms have been introduced to allow employees to provide their input on health and safety matters. This has had a positive impact on culture and has seen both companies start a new health and safety chapter in which staff collaborate to solve health and safety problems and bring new ideas to the table. After achieving RoSPA Silver for the past three years and having implemented multiple new measures, RoSPA Gold seemed like the next tangible step in demonstrating our commitment to health and safety. Following a team effort at both Central and Spares in submitting evidence to RoSPA for the awards, we successfully achieved Gold for 2022. Group Health and Safety Manager, Hannah France has played a huge part in making this achievement possible. Hannah offered her thoughts on both companies achieving the Gold awards: “The RoSPA Awards are so well recognised around the world as a prestigious achievement. It was important to us at both Central and Spares to aim for Gold following our hard work over the last year to continue to improve safety culture, expand the support available to staff and increase engagement with the workforce. Fortunately, with the assistance of the team in submitting our evidence we were able to demonstrate that both Central and Spares were worthy of Gold. This is an achievement to be shared by all the staff as it is due to everyone’s commitment and contribution that we were able to accomplish this award.” Managing Director of Blue Spares, Ian Webber pays tribute to all those at Blue Spares who made this achievement possible: “This is a fantastic achievement and shows how strong our approach and culture is in regard to all aspects of Health & Safety. A big thank you to all for making this possible, particularly Hannah France, Pete Quinn and Lee Holman who have worked extremely hard not only on our RoSPA submission but also our day-to-day approach to all aspects of health and safety”.

With additional local depots and access to more engineers, our customers will benefit from faster response times and reduced downtimes. The restructure will be effective as of 1st April 2022 and will see minimal change for our existing customers as their local sales and service representatives will remain the same, but with additional staff resource being added across all departments to better support our customers. All members of staff previously working for Murray Plant will continue to support our range of world leading attachments by joining the regional business local to them depending on whether they were previously based out of Stirling or Warrington. We look forward to continuing our strong relationships with existing customers and creating some new ones too, as we strive to increase our attachments offering across the UK.

Blue Scotland will keep the Murray Plant trading name, operating as ‘Murray Plant – A Blue Scotland Company’. However, both Blue Southern and Blue Central will acquire the attachment product lines and continue to operate as usual under their current trading names. Our product ranges include attachments from world leading brands such as Rammer, Allu, Fortress, Xcentric, Pladdet, OilQuick and more. Spare parts for all these brands will now be stocked at our two dedicated Blue Spares facilities based in Warrington and Stirling, for improved access to parts and quicker lead times. By bringing our attachment products into the three core Blue businesses this allows us to offer regionalised sales, service and administrative teams to provide customers with more comprehensive levels of service and support.

Rye Group opted to use New Era’s HVO Green D+ due to the sustainable nature of its production. The fuel is fully certified back to source to ISCC standards, in line with the Renewable Energy Directive. Managing Director at Rye Group, Simon Barlow comments: “We are hugely excited to have taken such a significant step to reducing our environmental impact. As an organisation we are heavily focused on making a positive difference wherever we work, so it is fantastic to be able to transfer our fleet from diesel to HVO." HVO is perfectly suited for use in all Powerscreen crushers and screeners, as long as the fuel adheres to EN 15940. If you would like to talk to us about this in more detail, get in touch with your local sales rep. Alternatively you can contact the regional Blue offices on:

HVO fuels are part of the paraffinic family of fuels and can be made from vegetable and /or animal fats which are renewable, sustainable and high quality. It is a fossil-free alternative to mineral diesel, resulting in up to 90% reduction in Greenhouse Gas emissions. HVO is characterised by having low aromatic and naphthenic hydrocarbon content and zero sulphur, which makes it an extremely pure fuel. The majority of equipment that we supply is now HVO compliant, including Powerscreen’s range of crushers and screeners. HVO forms a vital part of the Powerscreen global strategy to reduce CO² emissions as they transition into a hydrocarbon free future. Blue Central customer, Rye Group have championed lots of initiatives around carbon reduction within the industry and they have now made the move over to HVO as they target a 90% reduction in fuel emissions. Rye Group – a leading provider of demolition, remediation and ground & enabling works, took its first HVO tank delivery back in August 2021. The company now run their entire fleet of plant machinery on HVO, including their Powerscreen Premiertrak R400X jaw crusher. So why choose to use HVO? It can lead to a CO² emission reduction of up to 90% over conventional diesel. HVO fuels have a much longer shelf life and can be stored for up to ten years, as compared to the one-year shelf life of fossil-based diesel. It offers great cold weather performance due to the higher cetane number and a low cloud point gives a better starting performance, and less chance of any waxing in extreme temperatures and a clean combustion. High flashpoint equates to safer storage and handling when compared to fossil-based diesel.

Rye Group Champion the Use of HVO Fuel in Powerscreen Equipment

As a group we are constantly looking at ways in which we can reduce our carbon emissions. This includes talking to customers and helping them to explore the option of using alternative fuels. Following the ban on red-diesel, there has been no better time to consider greener fuels such as HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil).

Blue raise over £12,000 on the 4 Peaks Challenge In May a team of eight from Blue Central and Blue Spares completed the 4 peaks challenge in under 48 hours. The guys put in an amazing effort to summit Ben Nevis (1,345m), Helvellyn (950m), Snowdon (1,085m) and Carrauntoohil (1,038m) in aid of the Lighthouse Club Charity.

Representing Blue Central we had Sean McGeary, Kevin McGeary, Phil Lynch and Liam Riley. Whilst Blue Spares’ team consisted of David Lang, Andy Shaw, Nick Lowe and Graham Smith. The guys were targeted to raise £10,000 (£1,250 each) and they managed to smash this by raising a grand total of £12,770! The guys were put through their paces straight from the off as they started the climb of Ben Nevis at 12pm on day one. They put in a tremendous effort to complete the highest peak of the challenge in 5 hours and 10 minutes, whilst facing strong winds, rain, snow and temperatures of -9°C. They then travelled down to the Lake District and started the climb of Helvellyn at 2:30am the next morning. Once they made it up and down Helvellyn (in complete darkness), the team carried on down to Snowdon to finish off a very tough 16-hour period. Following the summit of Snowdon their coach then took them over to Holyhead where they caught the ferry over to Dublin. Arriving into Dublin at Midnight, they then faced a 5 hour trip across to Carrauntoohill where the challenge came to its conclusion at the highest peak in Ireland.

The money raised by the guys went to such a worthy cause. The Lighthouse Club is the only charity that provides emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families. The charity provides a 24/7 construction industry helpline which is complemented with their helpline App, meaning that those who may not feel comfortable speaking to someone over the phone can also seek help. A big thanks goes out to all of our customers, suppliers, colleagues, families and friends for your amazing support and generous donations. Your generosity made it possible for the guys to take part in this once in a lifetime challenge, as well as helping a great cause. Blue’s next involvement with the charity takes place on July 15th at The Mere Resort for the Lighthouse Club North West golf day. If you would like to enter a team, please get in touch with Blue Central on 01606 261 262 .

Blue Scotland announced as the MDS distributor in Scotland & North East England

Casey Expand their Processing Capability with MDS Heavy Duty Trommel Casey Plant recently purchased an MDS M412 rock trommel on the back of a successful demonstration period, in what was Blue Central’s first MDS machine sold since being announced as the dealers across Central and North West England.

Then we went to see the machine being demoed at another business who had it working on a claggy, wet material and we were impressed with how it handled that too. We then decided to bring the machine to this site that it is working on now and it continued to work well, so we decided to purchase the machine. We’ve predominantly used deck screens in the past, however those would have never been able to process the tricky materials that the MDS can. The addition of the M412 allows us to process these materials a lot quicker, whilst producing a clean product ready to be crushed.” The M412 Track Trommel is a highly versatile trommel screen. From light material to recycling heavy demolition waste, the M412 can handle it. This machine can also operate in the quarry, cleaning dirty material up to 600mm (24”) in size. It comes complete with the fold out stockpiling conveyors and is ideal for moving around the yard and from one site to the next. The machine thrives when working on sticky dirty clay, rip rap/ armour rock, recycling waste, limestone, primary screening, demolition waste and blasted rocks. Casey Plant’s M412 Trommel is available for nationwide hire, if you are you interested then get in touch with Dean Tinsley on 07764600930 .

Casey Plant is a leading supplier of specialist plant to the construction, waste, demolition and quarrying sectors. With a comprehensive hire fleet, a well qualified team of field service engineers and a friendly and helpful parts department, they can provide a full service, whether you want contract or spot hire, or you run your own fleet. MDS – A Terex Brand, is a leading manufacturer of heavy- duty rock trommels and conveyors. The company which was acquired by Terex MP back in July 2021, were originally founded in 1995 and over the last 25 years MDS have built a valued reputation for innovation, offering bespoke solutions to serve client needs with equipment that can withstand the harshest of environments. Blue Machinery represent the recently rebranded MDS products from central England all the way up to the top of Scotland, with Blue Scotland recently joining Blue Central in becoming a distributor. The first MDS 412 Heavy Duty trommel arrived at Blue Central at the start of the year and shortly after the machine was out on the road for demonstrations with several customers, with one of those being Casey Plant. Jonathan Mills, Service Manager at Casey Plant spoke about his experience with the M412: “We first had it on demo at one of our utilities waste sites where it was processing tarmac and hardcore, and we were happy with the job it had done there.

Blue Machinery (Scotland) Ltd have been appointed as the MDS distributor for Scotland and the North East of England.

machines on order and we will be showcasing these machines to our customers in the Autumn”. Raheel Qamar, Sales & Marketing Manager at MDS commented: “Blue Scotland will be key to strengthening our product offering in the Northern region of UK and Scotland. This is an exciting partnership, with the local marketing knowledge and existing sales network, Blue Scotland will provide local support to the MDS customer base.” As part of Blue Scotland’s introduction to the MDS brand, they showcased an MDS M413 3 way split Trommel at the Scotplant show which took place at the Royal Highland Centre on Friday 22nd & Saturday 23rd April.

The company which was acquired by Terex MP back in July, were originally founded in 1995 and over the last 25 years MDS have built a valued reputation for innovation, offering bespoke solutions to serve client needs with equipment that can withstand the harshest of environments. Blue Scotland are the second Blue company to become a dealer for the MDS brand in the UK, with Blue Central having taken on the dealership within the North West and Central England. Blue Machinery Spares will become the authorised parts provider for the MDS product ranges within the area in which Blue Scotland operate. The next/same day delivery offered on the vast majority of parts, paired with Blue Scotland’s network of industry leading field service engineers, means that MDS customers will be able to benefit from minimised downtime on their machines. Austin Carey, Managing Director at Blue Machinery Scotland comments: “Blue Scotland have had previous experience selling MDS rock trommels in the Scottish market. We felt that the recent acquisition of the business from Terex will result in further development of the product range. We see lots of potential applications in which these products can excel in, including overburden processing, rock armour, primary screening and inert materials. We have some demonstration

Jones Skips Upgrade to the Latest Doppstadt Technology at New Wood Recycling Facility

Jones Skips continue to put their trust in Doppstadt and Blue Machinery Southern, with the purchase of a new AK 640K high-speed shredder and SM620.2K trommel.

Click here to see the Doppstadt AK 640K & SM620.2K in action

The brand new Doppstadt Equipment will be going into their new wood processing facility in West Bromwich which the company opened last year. Lyndon Rushby, Managing Director at Jones Skips explains: “When wood prices took off in 2021 we decided to open up a dedicated wood processing facility. Material is being brought in from our Wolverhampton site which is used to process all our incoming skip waste and we also work with third party skip hire companies in the surrounding area, with our customer base continually growing. In 2022 we are looking to have a real push on this side of the business, which is why we decided to upgrade our two previous machines which were 2 and 3 years old”. The AK 640K is a brand-new model from Doppstadt (replacing the old AK 635K) and is the biggest in their high-speed shredder line-up. It has a new, more powerful main drive and 7.5m long conveyor offering a discharge height of 5m, designed for the most demanding requirements. This particular shredder is fitted with an 80mm 3D basket and has two-piece hammers for a high-quality product with less fines. Once processed by the AK 640K, material is then fed into their new SM620.2K trommel screen. The trommel has a large feed hopper with volume of 7m³. However, similar to Doppstadt trommels of the past, the standout features are its throughput and reliability. The 80mm product that enters the trommel is then split into twice sizes, a <15mm product and a 15-80mm product. Lyndon went on to discuss why he decided to stick with Doppstadt and Blue Southern when it was time to upgrade from his old machines: “It ultimately came down to the level of back up and support offered by Blue. I have a good rapport with the Service Director, Stuart Hardiman and the salesmen, Mark McMullan. We did look at other options from some other suppliers, but I didn’t want to risk venturing out to someone new when I know how good the support is from Blue. We have also run Doppstadt machines for many years, so we already know the quality and reliability of the brand. It was all about sticking with what I know and who I know”.

ASH Group have worked with Blue Central since their inception, having purchased countless machines throughout the years. Director at ASH Group, John Dennan spoke about the relationship between ASH and Blue: “We’ve got a great working relationship with Blue Central and we welcomed the news of them becoming the new Doosan dealer within our region. We already have experience with Doosan equipment as we currently run their wheel loaders within our fleet. So, when the time came to renew our excavators, moving to Blue and Doosan was the natural thing to do. We know the track history of Blue. We’ve had extensive experience with Blue’s aftersales service and the quality of product they sell speaks for itself. ASH Group run a large fleet of Blue’s machines and they have never let us down. I look forward to receiving those same levels of production and service on the Doosan side as our fleet grows”. John went on to talk about how impressed he’s been with the fuel consumption of his two new DX225LC-7 excavators: “I’ve been very pleased with the efficiency on the two new machines, we’re currently doing around 10.5 litres per hour which means we are saving around 25% per hour compared to our previous machine. This is a massive cost saving, especially since the ban on red diesel has come in to effect”. For all your Doosan equipment requirements across North Wales, Cheshire and South Merseyside, get in touch with Tim Dilworth on 07497 389924 or tim.dilworth@bluegroup.co.uk. ASH Group make the switch to Doosan for their Excavators

ASH Aggregates upgrade their fleet with two brand new Doosan DX225LC-7 Excavators. ASH Group Ltd has grown from strength to strength, becoming one of the UK's leading waste and resource management companies. ASH aggregates (a division of ASH Group) focus on the production of recycled washed aggregates for use within the construction industry. They’re focused on helping to create a sustainable environment with a first class product that is suitable for many uses. Breakthrough technology that sets new standards in the industry - the exclusive ECO power system improves productivity and saves fuel. A pressure-controlled pump, closed-centre main control valve and 9 sensors electronically detect and control the precise amount of hydraulic oil required

to perform a task and precisely meter the amount of oil required (rather than continuously forcing a fixed amount of oil through the system), thereby improving efficiency. The hydraulic system output requirements are optimised with engine horsepower. The resulting efficiency sharply improves productivity and reduces fuel consumption. Improved feedback through the controls results in an outstanding level of operator comfort and much smoother machine control.

The company recently upgraded their fleet with the addition of two brand new Doosan DX225LC-7 excavators. The two machines went straight to work at their site in Deeside. Doosan’s 23 tonner is an exceptionally powerful machine, with high torque and low revs. The new Doosan engine combines reliability and low environmental impact. Its Stage V compliant 6 cylinder engine delivers 129kW at 1800 rpm.

They will also be using the show to share their latest digital technologies, including the launch of a new app. Blue Machinery Spares will also be exhibiting some of their OEM Powerscreen parts. With Blue Central and Blue Scotland recently being announced as dealers for the MDS brand, we look forward to joining them on their stand. Whilst Blue Central became distributors for Doosan back in January, so you can be sure to find the team from Central on the Doosan stand too.

Blue kick off show season with Scotplant We kicked off the show season with Scotplant which took place at the Royal Highland Centre on 22nd and 23rd April. It’s been a long four years since the last Scotplant back in 2018, so we were delighted to get back to Scotland’s biggest construction equipment trade show event.

Blue Scotland exhibited a stand full of industry leading machinery from both existing and new brands. A couple of days before the show Blue Machinery Scotland were announced as the MDS- A Terex Brand distributor for Scotland and the North East of England. To celebrate the new agreement we displayed an MDS M413 heavy duty rock trommel on the stand. Joining the M413 on the stand we had a Powerscreen Maxtrak 1300 which was sold to Cloburn Quarry, a Powerscreen CT65 stacking conveyor, a Doppstadt AK 565K and perhaps the showpiece of the stand which was a Terex Fuchs MHL 350FQC fitted with a Fortress FS-45 shear. The 350FQC is the first F series quick connect machine sold into the UK, which was purchased by Bernard Hunter Ltd. We also joined Terex Washing Systems on their stand which they used to showcase an M1400 mobile washing screen and an FM 120 bucket wheel. Murray Plant – A Blue Scotland Company were co-located on the Blue stand and displayed a range of their world leading attachment brands including, Rammer, Fortress, Allu, Pladdet, Xcentric and OilQuick. They also introduced some new forestry brands to their product portfolio, which they will be showing to their customers in the coming months. Around 5,300 visitors attended the event and they were treated to two days of sunshine. It was great to see so many of our customers join us on the stand and it was good to see some new faces too. The Scotplant show is an excellent event for Blue Scotland as it is specific to their region, making it a great place to showcase new equipment to the market. We look forward to returning to Scotplant in 2024.

Hillhead returns this year on 21-23 June and we’d be delighted if you could join us at the show!

Ron Hull Invest in Trio of Fuchs Handlers Ron Hull invests in three brand new Fuchs MHL 350Fs for their new multi-million pound facility in Sheffield.

Click here to watch the MHL 350Fs working at their new facility

Machine supported by

service package

Founder of the company, Ron Hull explains his reasoning behind choosing Fuchs handlers for his new site: “We already run Fuchs machines at our other sites and the operators seem to really like them. The new cabs offer them a great deal of comfort, which is very important as this is where they spend most of their working day. The machines provide excellent levels of speed and power, and they perform particularly well when lifting at reach in comparison to other machines. We also have a great relationship with the Blue Central Salesman Adam and their service department. We are very happy with the service provided by Blue, which is why we have taken out service contracts with each of the three new machines”. The customer opted to go for the ‘Maintain’ Blue Care service package. This means that as well as benefitting from everything in their ‘Monitor’ package (including fluid analysis, telematics, and parts sales), Blue Central will also maintain their machinery through planned maintenance and equipment monitoring. All scheduled servicing work will be covered at a fixed price rate. The investment doesn’t stop here for Ron Hull Group as they currently have a Fuchs AHL 831F (Pylon) on order which is due in August 2022. This is a fully electric static machine fitted onto a Pylon which will be working within a waste shed at one of the company’s facilities in Rotherham, and will be the first of its kind in the UK.

As part of this investment the company were committed to running the best equipment for the job, which is why they have purchased three brand new Fuchs MHL 350F material handlers within the last 12 months. The MHL 350F is the benchmark for the 30+ tonne class of material handlers. State-of-the-art engine technology paired with pioneering hydraulics makes the 350 one of the fastest and most sensitive loading machines in its class. With an operating weight of up to 35.5 tonnes, 16 meter reach and 3 meter undercarriage width, the MHL 350F is truly at home within the scrapyard.

First formed in 1976 by the Group’s founder and owner Ronald Hull, the company started out with a 6-acre site and a handful of employees. Ron Hull is now a group of companies operating from 4 parallel licensed recycling sites in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. With over 200 staff covering 30 acres of factory premises, offices and Waste Transfer Station, the Ron Hull Group of Companies are an ever-expanding business in the Yorkshire region. In 2021 this expansion moved across to Sheffield as they invested in a new multi-million pound facility. This new site adds a new dimension to the group as it contains a 1250hp Fragmentiser which can produce up to 200 tonnes of shredded steel per day, complementing their granulator plants and shear balers.
