SeSSIon 12 | lIStenInG Learning Objective: Listening requires concentration. Often information gets lost when you get information from hearsay. Good listeners can create a better welcome.
Ask: What does this activity tell us about listening? Aim for answers like: • When people communicate, some of the information always gets lost. • It is important to listen closely, so you get all the information. • People tend to fill in information that wasn’t there in the first place. • Concentration is important if you listen to someone. • If someone feels heard, you make him or her feel welcome.

tAKe-AWAYS • Listening closely makes guests feel welcome. • Listening calls for concentration. • Sometime it’s hard work to really listen.
SeSSIon BrIeFInG Ask: What does it take to be a good listener and why is that important?
Aim for answers like: • Genuine interest, to make someone heard and feels welcomed. • Concentration, so you hear all the important details. • Leave behind assumptions, so you get a clear massage. • Eagerness to know what someone is telling you, so someone is really invited to tell you his or her story/request/need. Sit or stand in a line and ask the first Ambassador and you (as trans- former) whisper the text into his/her neighbor’s ear: Text: ‘To craft magnifique moments, we, as Ambassadors, surprise you with cousu main service and create unforgettable moments. I’m a life artist and love French culture!” Or prepare your own text if you can think of an empowering one! This second Ambassador then whispers what he/she has heard into the ear of the next neighbor. Continue until all the Ambassadors have been whispered to. Ask the last Ambassador what the text was that he/she heard from his/her neighbor. Obviously, some (or a lot!) of the informa- tion got lost along the line.
