When the Ambassadors have guessed what is on the card, it’s the turn of the next Ambassador. Continue for a few rounds. Extra: You might want to put an element of competition in this exercise by counting how many questions were necessary before guessing the right guest request. Then ask what it was like to do this questioning exercise. Aim for: • If you ask questions, it is important to be curious. • If you ‘read’ body language (even when someone only says ‘yes’ and ‘no’), you get to the right answer faster. • It’s important to stay patient and polite when you have to ask a lot of questions • Really wanting to know what is needed makes guests feel welcome and indulged. tAKe-AWAYS • Closed questions most likely lead to ‘yes’ and ‘no’ answers. • You have to be creative when finding out guests’ requests. • ‘Reading’ body language gives you a lot of information.

SeSSIon BrIeFInG Explain: In good communication, we’ll have to ask many questions. We stand for indulging, valuing and welcoming guests and therefore we need to know exactly what they desire. To practice the ‘art of questioning’, we’ll do the next activity. Ask: the Ambassadors to form into groups of three. Give each group a set of Questioning cards. They take turns in taking a card, while the other 2 Ambassadors start asking questions in order to find out what’s on the card. Tell the Ambassadors that there are guest requests on the cards. The Ambassador who has a card may only answer with ‘yes’ or ‘no’, but can help the others using body language. Explain: Closed questions can be answered with a single word or short phrases. They provide us with specifics and facts. They are quick and easy to answer.
