SeSSIon 5 | BeInG tHere For tHe GueSt Learning Objective: Understand how I can make the guest feel special by just being there for him/her.
Activity: You will all receive 1 postcard with somebody’s name written on it (A person from this transformer group). I want you to write this card to that person and tell him/her something positive you observed (today during the transformation or back at work – does not matter). But not just anything positive (‘I like your blouse’ is too impersonal). It has to demonstrate that you were really paying attention to your colleague. That you really cared. You may use the stickers provided.
Set uP
10 min (might take a little longer…) Indoor Team 7-12 pax
Do: Give several minutes to write the cards. Then hand out the cards.
mAterIAlS Postcards, 1 for each participant (these may be postcards of the hotel, but also any postcard the transformer likes) Markers Pens Stickers (or other positive stickers) SeSSIon BrIeFInG Say: Being there is more than just presence. Being there is paying attention to the other person. Being there is keeping your eyes and ears open. Being there is reading the other person’s body language. Being there may only be that one small moment of eye contact.
Ask if somebody wants to share what he or she received on his or her postcard. Ask how that made them feel. If the group is not willing to share out loud (Maybe too personal or emotional), ask how it felt to write the card.
tAKe-AWAYS • Being personal to guests (or colleagues) makes the other person feel special • Being personal to guests (or colleagues) gives you a good feeling too
Ask: Who would like to share an example of when you were really being there for somebody else?
Ask: What did you do?
Ask: What was the reaction of the other person?
Ask: How did that make you feel? Facilitate the discussion.
