Electrical & Diagnostics

Modern Smart Charging Systems 2/10/24, 8:30-11:30 am Class #127, DeVos River Overlook B Vehicle manufacturers are faced with trying to meet ever increasing fuel economy standards. One of the changes the manufacturers have embraced is computer-controlling the charging systems to minimize the rotating resistance of the alternators. These computer-controlled charging systems require a system-wide diagnostic procedure. This course helps to introduce technicians to these computer-controlled charging systems, as well as reinforce the sometimes-forgotten procedures needed for diagnosing charging system failures. The course begins with battery and cable diagnosis, basic alternator operation, as well as belt and pulley inspections. The course then continues, covering the computer-controlled charging system operation and diagnosis.

Troubleshooting 3 Generations of Air Bag Electrical Systems for Import & Domestic 2/10/24, 1:30-4:30 pm Class #211, Amway Pearl Room This is an extremely important topic for ALL technicians, as Air Bags have become an important part of diagnosis and repair even when the vehicle has not been in an accident. From replacing turn signal switches to trouble shooting “illuminated” or flashing Air Bag light complaints, this course will give the students the tools they need to confidently diagnose and repair air bag problems, as well as how to avoid air bag problems while performing routine services. Includes: Theory, operation, and testing of air bag circuits; ASDM, safing & arming sensors; SDM sensing systems; domestic & import systems; test procedures not in any book; manual deployment of air bags (in and out of car); how to avoid trouble when doing steering racks and battery replacement. Starting and Charging System Diagnosis 2/10/24, 1:30-4:30 pm Class #224, DeVos Grand Gallery F This seminar covers battery, starting, and charging system component operation, diagnosis and testing, and correct service practices. The discussion on battery operation will include details on flooded and Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) batteries, with emphasis on correct diagnosis and service. Starting topics will include processor controlled cranking systems, stop / start technology, and current diagnostic procedures. Participants will discuss computer-controlled charging systems including Regulated Voltage Controls (RVC), electrical power management, and advanced

diagnostic procedures. Presented by: ACDelco Speaker: Jerry Tempel
