Engine Diagnostics

Fuel Delivery

Modern Gasoline Engines Turbo Operation and Diagnostics 2/10/24, 1:30-4:30 pm Class #227, DeVos River Overlook B Vehicle manufacturers have been using turbochargers for many years, but in small percentages. Recent changes in fuel economy standards have gotten vehicle manufacturers to drastically increase the percentage of vehicles equipped with turbochargers. The result, smaller C.I.D. engines producing higher horsepower with better fuel economy by way of turbo charging. This course reintroduces the technicians to different turbocharger technologies and control systems. More importantly, many times a turbocharger failure is not the caused by the turbocharger itself, but the result of another failure. The course discusses diagnosing operation and performance issues as they relate to causing turbocharger failures to help ensure a complete engine repair and to avoid repeated turbocharger failures.

CRD and GDI Similarities and Differences 2/10/24, 1:30-4:30 pm Class #230, DeVos River Overlook E

Explore the Similarities and Differences between CRD (Common Rail Diesel) and GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) fuel injection systems. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the principles, components, and operation of both systems, along with diagnostic techniques and system control strategies. Students will develop the skills needed to diagnose and repair CRD and GDI systems effectively through interactive discussions and examples. Presented by: Bosch Speaker: Dieter Lorentz

Heavy Duty Emissions

After-Treatment Emissions Systems 2/10/24, 8:30-11:30 am Class #104, Amway Imperial Ballroom 2/10/24, 1:30-4:30 pm Class #204, Amway Imperial Ballroom Dinex will provide comprehensive instructions on after-treatment system components, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively diagnose, maintain, and optimize these systems. This training aims to extend the lifespan of system components, enhance performance, reduce costs, and ensure accurate, first-time repairs. PLEASE NOTE: The same class is presented in both AM and PM to give increased exposure. Presented by: Dinex Emissions Speakers: Sebastian Houde & Mara Godding

Variable Valve Lift Operation and Diagnostics 2/10/24, 8:30-11:30 am Class #106, Amway Governor’s Room VVL systems are common on modern day engine management systems. Many times, VVL works with Variable Cam Timing systems to increase engine performance and efficiency. Three systems will be covered in detail: Chrysler Pentastar 3.6L, VW/Audi 4-cylinder turbo, GM Turbo 2.7L engine System diagnostics will include scan tool driven tests as well as manual driven tests. Scan data interpretation and scope usage will be highlighted throughout this session. Presented by: Pro-Tech Auto Speaker: John Thornton
