Les Kodiaks ont leur 20 e championnat d’athlétisme

Les Kodiaks ont été dominants et ont remporté de nombreuses médailles, dont un podium complet au 200 mètres filles senior, composé de Janyka Leroux, Madison McGillis et Chloé Carrière. Leroux et McGillis ont répété l’exploit lors de l’épreuve du saut en longueur et une autre Kodiak, Cynthia St-Denis, s’est emparée du bronze. Les sœurs Lapensée ont à nouveau do- miné l’épreuve du lancer du poids senior, Mélyna remportant l’or avec un lancer de 9,76 mètres et Juliane l’argent grâce à une distance de 9,19mètres. Le lancer du disque
a aussi été leur affaire, mais cette fois c’est Juliane qui a terminé avec l’or au cou devant sa sœur. Enfin, Mélyna a écrasé la compéti- tion au lancer du javelot tandis que Juliane s’est classée deuxième. Mélyna a été la seule enmesure de dépasser les 30mètres en dis- tance. Les lancers du poids ont aussi souri aux Kodiaks dans la division junior, avec Chloé Galipeau et Shanelle Godin-Hankey, qui ont chacune remporté des médailles d’or et d’argent. Sur la piste, Alexandre Denis a également connu du succès, terminant au premier rang lors des épreuves des 100 et 200mètres mid-
get, avec des temps de 12,20 s et 24,86 s. Xavier Léveillé, récemment repêché par les Hawks au hockey, est aussi un athlète aux multiples talents et il est monté sur la plus haute marche du podium au saut en longueur midget. Les Kodiaks ont aus- si remporté plusieurs médailles lors des épreuves de course chez les garçons, grâce à de bonnes performances de Nicholas Lajeu- nesse, Tyson Peers, Jérémie Poirier, Anthony Dion et Julien Santini. Enfin, Hawkesbury a remporté le relais 4 x 100 mètres senior chez les garçons et ceux junior et senior chez les filles.
En 2015, les Kodiaks de l’École secondaire catholique régionale de Hawkesbury (ES- CRH) visaient un 20 e championnat d’ath- létisme de Prescott-Russell, mais c’est finalement l’École secondaire publique Le Sommet qui a écrit l’histoire avec son tout premier championnat. Un an plus tard, les Kodiaks étaient prêts pour leur revanche et, cette fois, l’ESCRHn’a pas raté son coup, remportant les grands honneurs avec une récolte de 591 points, loin devant L’Escale
