THE BEAUTI BOOK JAN 2018
You Are What You Eat
Are you ready to kick off 2018 right? We’re sure ready to make 2018 the best year yet! If you didn’t feel or look your best in 2017, it’s time to leave that image behind and start fresh. Seize the day! Advances in research combined with new technology means we have all the tools we need to realize our vision.
While these are more subjective notes, the results are indicative of the ways sugar damages our skin.
What do their findings mean for you? Vegetables are good for your skin. Sure, you already knew this, but are you living it? For better skin in 2018, there are three things you need to change in your diet if you want to get the same rosy, refreshed appearance the women in this study had. Eat Your Veggies Broccoli, celery, carrots, green peppers, and other veggies should be the stars of your plate. These and other cruciferous veggies are high in Vitamin E and D, essential ingredients for healthy skin. Limit How Much Meat You Eat Meat’s inflammatory properties don’t help when it comes to aging. While you don’t have to give it up altogether, limiting your meat intake could lead to a healthier you. Stick to nutritious fish, like salmon, to get extra vitamins. Participate in Meatless Monday (there’s even a website for inspiration: meatlessmonday.com) and share your colorful meals on social media! Lower Your Sugar Intake Desserts, alcohol, and sweeteners — these unnecessary additions to your diet won’t help your skin, and they surely won’t help your waistline. Stick to treats once in a while, not every day. What it comes down to is what we’ve been told all along: You are what you eat. If you eat the right foods, they’ll protect your skin from oxidation and the effects of the sun, both of which lead to more signs of aging. For your skin and your whole body, go green! Once you’ve made these simple changes, our treatments can help boost nature’s power. Check out our article on Page 3 of the Newsletter to learn more about the exciting anti-aging technology we’re accessing this year.
To give your skin a fresh start, we have an important finding to share with you. The results are life-changing when it comes to your health, inside and out. One study can tell us a lot about the dramatic impact our diet has on our skin. Over a period of 16 weeks, researchers followed a group of women and looked at the effects their diet had on the thickness of their skin. Before the study, scientists measured the thickness of the women’s skin using biopsies and ultrasounds. During the study, one group of women continued their regular diet, while the other was given a mostly plant- based diet, with salmon allowed, but no other meat and very little sugar. What did the researchers discover at the end of the 16 weeks? The women who’d followed the plant-based diet had a 16–22 percent improvement in the thickness of their skin! Researchers also noted the pink tone of these women’s skin and an overall healthier appearance.
Bring out your best you in 2018!
