Use this quick list to get familiar with a number of terms used within healthcare and staffing.
ACA Affordable Care Act, often referred to as “ObamaCare.”
ACO Accountable Care Organizations, which are groups of doctors, hospitals, and other healthcare providers, who come together voluntarily to give coordinated high-quality care to their Medicare patients. ADVANCED PRACTICE PROFESSIONALS Advanced Practice Professionals include physician assistants (PA), nurse practitioners (NP), certified nurse midwives (CNM) and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA). They are able to do many of the same things a physician does. PAs, NPs, and CNMs can prescribe medications. CDI Clinical Documentation Improvement – This is a service that helps educate client staff to accurately document and code data for use in reporting, physician report cards, reimbursement, public health data, and disease tracking and trending. CONTINGENT A term used to describe staff not considered “core” to a unit or department, including float pool staff, temporary nursing or allied professional staff.. CRITICAL STAFFING Also known as strike staffing. This is a service that AMN provides to clients facing work stoppage due to a planned union strike. EHR Electronic Health Record – A digital version of a paper chart that contains all of a patient’s medical history. GPO Group Purchasing Organization – This is an entity that connects healthcare organizations to negotiate contracts and help providers save costs in their supply chain. AMN is an endorsed staffing supplier through Premier, a leading GPO for the healthcare industry.
