HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL A broad term that includes physicians, nurses, and many others who are qualified by education, training, licensure/regulation (when applicable), and facility privileging (when applicable) who perform a professional service within their scope of practice and independently reports that professional service. HIM Health Information Management - The practice of acquiring, analyzing, and protecting digital and traditional medical information vital to providing quality patient care. ICD-10-CM The International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Edition, is a clinical cataloging system that went into effect for the U.S. healthcare industry on October 1, 2015. THE JOINT COMMISSION This organization accredits organizations that focus on continually improving healthcare by setting the highest standards for healthcare quality throughout the world. AMN Healthcare has been awarded the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval. LOCUM TENENS This comes from the Latin phrase “to hold the place of, to substitute for.” At AMN Healthcare, Locum Tenens, or Locums, refers to temporary staffing assignments for physicians. MACRA Abbreviation for Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015, which is federal legislation that establishes (among other things) new ways to pay physicians for caring for Medicare beneficiaries. MEDICARE The federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant, sometimes called ESRD). MEDICAID Not to be confused with Medicare, this is a jointly funded, Federal-State health insurance program for low-income individuals. It covers children, the aged, blind, and/or disabled, and other people who are eligible to receive federally assisted income maintenance payments.
