Maple View School Statement of Purpose

ADMISSIONS

We welcome referrals from:

Parents / Guardians

Social Workers

Education Officers

Medical Staff

Children are admitted in line with our Criteria for Admission. This is Specific Speech and Language Difficulties, Associated Behavioural Difficulties, Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties and Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Maple View School does not admit children as an emergency placement. Formal referrals are usually made by a Local Authority and/or CCG and supported with referral documentation. We also welcome private referrals, although an assessment must take place before Maple View School can be named on a child’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). We are able to arrange free, no obligation assessments at short notice. Following the assessment process we will produce a clear written report. If we can meet the needs of the child we will also send a fully costed proposal. Prior to admission we will plan the child's transition with parents and professionals to ensure this is as smooth as possible. We understand that moving into a new home can be a significant and sometimes overwhelming experience for a young person. Our admissions and transition process is designed to be gentle, thoughtful, and relationship focused, ensuring each child feels welcomed understood, and supported from the very beginning. To help create a sense of safety and connection, we use what we call the Maple View Bravery Bear. As part of the transition, every young person receives their own Bravery Bear to keep. This bear becomes a familiar, comforting companion that can stay with them throughout their move and beyond. Our staff also have a Bravery Bear in the home. During introductory visits, conversations, and check-ins, the young person is invited—if they feel comfortable—to share what their bear has been doing, and we share what our bear has been up to as well. This simple, play ful interaction helps build trust, encourages expression, and creates a shared point of connection between the young person and the adults who will be caring for them. The Bravery Bear is not just a toy; it is part of our trauma-responsive approach. It supports relationship building, provides emotional reassurance, and helps ease the transition into a new environment. Our goal is for every young person to feel that they are entering a home where they are cared for, listened to, and never expected to navigate change on their own.
