Commemora ti ng Queen’s The Queen’s School’s 2024 Commemora ti on Service celebrated 146 years of educa ti on. This year we were delighted to enjoy a speech by Ruth Waring (Williams) ’85 , who shared her four features of being a Queen’s girl and how, when these work together in harmony, all girls can thrive. The four features included how all Queen’s pupils are clever, know how to learn, can u ti lise the School’s network, and have con fi dence. Her career pioneering women in logis ti cs inspired all to know that they too can have great success in their chosen path. The service fi nished with our Year 13 students, as The Queen’s School alumni of 2024, leading Year 3 pupils, who will be our alumni of 2034, out of the Nave. Our newest alumnae return to school The academic year began with the tradi ti onal Michaelmas Supper, where we celebrated the leavers of 2023, who returned for the fi rst ti me as alumnae of Queen’s. Held in the School Dining Hall, the evening ensured the students could spend ti me together before heading o ff to university or on their gap year. Prize Giving 2023 Our Prize Giving ceremony in September welcomed back Alumna Janine Turner (Flamank) ’75 to the School as our guest speaker. Janine presented the prizes and reminded us all to never pass up an opportunity to be inspired, as raising posi ti ve emo ti ons will help you on your way. Janine is a huge advocate of learning foreign languages, sharing that her love of languages started at Queen’s thanks to her French teacher, Mrs Hargreaves, and her German teacher, Mrs Hinde.

It was an absolute pleasure to welcome alumnae from the Classes of ’73 and ’74 back to The Queen’s School for their special reunions. For some, it was the fi rst ti me they had returned to Queen’s for 50 years, and all enjoyed a morning of reminiscing past school days and reconnec ti ng with friends. A selec ti on of archives was available, and all ladies enjoyed looking for and fi nding their name in the original school register, as well as a tour around the School, rediscovering parts that hasn’t changed and new addi ti ons. The tradi ti onal back lawn photo opportunity is always a favourite.
