easy grow guide coleus mezmerize (solenostemon blumei)
Plug Production: 288 plugs
Sowing/Media:
Use a well-drained, disease-free, peat-based plug medium with pH 5.5-5.8, EC <0.75 mmhos. Cover seeds lightly with vermiculite. Keep medium uniformly moist, not saturated and reduce slightly once cotyledons are open. Media temperature should be 72-75°F (22-24°C). Light is not required for germination but can benefit plant quality once emergence has begun. Keep light levels <2500 f.c. at this stage. Media temperature should be 68-72°F (20-22°C). Once cotyledons are fully open, dry the media down between irrigations to improve rooting, but avoid wilting. Keep light levels at 2500 f.c. 14 hour days will improve growth rate and foliage quality, particularly in low light conditions. Begin fertilising with 100-175 ppm N as needed. Keep media pH at 5.5-5.8, EC at 0.7-1.2 mmhos. Media temperature can be lowered to 62-65°F (16-18°C). Maintain moisture levels as per stage 3. Light levels can be increased to 2500-5000f.c. Fertilize as per stage 3. Coleus is sensitive to high salt levels and high ammonium levels. PGRs should not be required.
Germination Stages 1 & 2: (4-5 days)

Germination Stage 4:
Growing on to Finish: 4 ” (10.5cm) up to 8 ” (19cm) pots
Media:
Use a well-drained, disease free, peat-based growing mix with pH 5.5-6.2 and EC 1.5-2.0 mmhos. Day temperatures for growing on should be 68-75°F (20-24°C), with night temperatures of 65-68°F (18-20°C). Light levels should be maintained at 3000-5000 f.c. Too Hot to Handle is a facultative short-day variety so growing under long days (14 hours or above), will delay flowering and improve plant build and foliage quality. Low light levels with warm temperatures will promote stretching. Practice a good wet/dry moisture cycle avoiding wilting. It is best to water early in the day to ensure foliage is dry before nightfall. Fertilise as required with 100 – 175 ppm N from a low ammonium fertiliser. pH 5.5-5.8, media EC 0.7-1.2 mmhos. Growth regulators are not generally required if ideal growing conditions can be achieved. If further height control is required, a spray of B-Nine at 2500-5000ppm is effective 2-3 weeks after transplant. Repeat if necessary. It is best to run your own trials to avoid overdosing, as weather and cultural regimes can affect the requirements.
