While being a serious young man, passionate about the Word of God, Joziah also enjoys video games and outdoor sports:, foot ball, swimming, basketball, and soccer. His mother, Beverly Shipp, says that she is proud of her son because he is a young leader who is outspoken, passionate, and an inspiration to his peers. His community based teacher and poetry coach, Honey Bell-Bey, Adolescent Project Director at Cleveland UMADAOP states, “I am proud of Joziah because he is not afraid to step outside of his comfort zone and demonstrate his unique gifts, his strong, yet gentle, beautiful leadership abilities that God has anointed him to with.” Further she states he is the first Distinguished Gentlemen to boldly come up to me, grab my hands and proclaim, “as the leader of this program, I need to stop and pray for and with you.” Indeed Joziah marches to the beat of his own drum, and it is a tune that is set with consistency, passion, inclusion and refreshing character based individuality.

and often sharing his faith- based views with his peers while embracing both differing and similar outlooks. At True Vine, Joziah leads the Audio/ Visual department; is the lead youth usher, and a member of the mime team, Worship Unspoken. This past year he enjoyed traveling with the Distinguished Gentlemen of Spoken Word to Paris and Lyon France, honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by performing at the US Embassy, and at schools and community centers throughout Paris. Additionally, he journeyed to the US capital in January representing the UMADAOP Youth Led initiative at the CADCA conference (Community Antidrug Coalition of America). Being in Washington DC, speaking on Capitol Hill to legislators and representatives, helped to ignite his passion to pursue his career goal of becoming an FBI agent. He is very vocal with his peers, and all who will listen in stating that, upon retirement from the government as an FBI agent, he will answer the calling on his life and become a pastor leading a church of his own.

Joziah Shipp was born on March 23, 2001. He is a 15 year old 10th grader at John Hay Early College in Cleveland Ohio. He has been a dedicated member of the Distinguished Gentlemen of Spoken Word for the past 3 years.The DGSW is a youth led performance arts group that affords adolescent young men an opportunity to excel, learn and develop their performance arts skills in a character-based environment. As a very active member of his church, True Vine Missionary Baptist, Joziah also excels in the community-based environment, leading by example,
