Education and Teaching • Creation of novel educational programs for students and residents that improve medical education and attain national or international recognition. • Respected as an excellent teacher/mentor as evidenced by evaluation from medical students, house-staff, fellows and peers. • Recognized role model and mentor for students, trainees and junior faculty. • Active and willing participant in teaching activities of thedepartment. • Participation in the development of courses, new curricular offerings, and innovative teaching materials. • Directorship of clerkship or residency program. • Membership on national committees that promote excellence in graduate school, medical school or residency education, or on specialty committees (e.g. USMLE— preparation of national board examquestions). Patient Care • Must be accomplished in their clinical fields. • High quality and ethical practice. • Local, regional and/or national recognition by peers and patients. Health Care Improvement Science • Leads a portfolio of system wide improvement projects that have improved patient outcomes. • Leads multisite collaborative quality improvement networks that produce consistent and impactful results. • Exemplary publication record that has resulted in external replication of impactful quality improvement or health care outcomeprograms. • Sustained record of extramural funding. Leadership and Administration • Positions of leadership within the department, the college, and/or in national societies.
