Systematicreview & Meta-analysis 7 controlled clinical trials were included - 3 RCTs on mid-portion Achilles tendinopathy (mid-AT) which used Radial ESWT - 4 RCTs on insertional Achilles tendinopathy (ins- AT), of which 3 used Radial ESWT and one used Focused ESWT Results • ESWT added to std care produced significant effect on mid-AT symptoms compared to std care alone. • Evidence supporting the effectiveness of ESWT for ins-AT is lacking.
Key message Based on this review, shockwave therapy can be recommended for mid-portion Achilles tendinopathy, but for insertional tendinopathy, quality evidence is lacking.
