FITZPATRICK SCALE

The Fitzpatrick scale is a numerical classification scheme for human skin color. This was developed in 1975 to estimate the response of different types of skin to Ultraviolet (UV) Light. SKIN TYPE I Pale, porcelain or ivory. Skin burns very easily and does not tan. Likely to have light blonde or red hair (Celebrity; Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore)

SKIN TYPE II Fair, beige or cream. Skin will usually burn in the sun and has difficulty tanning (Celebrity; Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie)

SKIN TYPE III Light brown, golden or olive. Skin will sometimes burn and will tan gradually (Celebrity; Jennifer Aniston, Paris Hilton)

SKIN TYPE IV Caramel or medium brown. Skin will tan easily and rarely burn (Celebrity; Jessica Alba, J Lo)

SKIN TYPE V Bronze or rich brown. Skin will tan without burning (Celebrity; Beyonce, Halle Berry)

SKIN TYPE VI Mahogany or dark brown. Skin never burns and will tan very quickly (Celebrity; Tyra Banks, Oprah)
