Does going for a walk sound like a big pain in the back? For those who struggle with chronic back pain, even the basic task of going for a walk can be overwhelming and painful. Back pain can strike at any time. Whether in the upper back, surrounding the neck and shoulders, or in the lower back at the lumbar or sciatica, back pain is something that no one likes to deal with for too long. Relying on pain medications to help you overcome back pain will leave you disappointed. While pain medications are frequently helpful at alleviating the discomfort of your back pain for a short period of time, they are not capable of resolving the issue that is causing your pain to develop in the first place. The only thing that can actually fix your back pain is addressing the issue that is causing your pain head on. Physical therapy is a great resource for addressing your back pain and can be a helpful tool in getting you back on your feet. Whether it is following a sudden injury or a chronic issue that has developed over time, physical therapy could be the answer to helping you enjoy life free of back pain. Give us a call to get started on relieving your back pain! Walking Your Way Pain Free Walking is a great formof exercise, but more than that, it is a necessity of life. When you can’t walk due to pain, even basic tasks become complicated. Getting out of bed in the morning, getting to and from work, moving your way around the office, and even spending time with family on the weekends all rely heavily on your ability to walk. If your back pain is interfering with your ability to move freely, then you know it is time to start doing something so you can Love Your Life again. Conveniently, walking is more than a goal when it comes to back pain, it could be part of the solution! Working with one of our therapists to develop improved strategies and techniques with your walking could help you to get back on your feet even sooner than you thought possible. What’s more, for those who are able to walk, getting on your feet more often with targeted exercises could help you find relief from back pain even sooner than expected. Fixing Your Stride When you are experiencing regular back pain—especially if you are experiencing back pain while walking—you should consider ways that you support your back. There are several things that you can do at home to improve your stride, which can make a significant difference when it comes to managing back pain day-to-day. Here are several ways that you can start taking care of your back with each step you take: WALK AWAY FROM BACK PAIN
VERSE OF THE MONTH:
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3
1. Make sure that you are wearing the right types of shoes. While the golden rule for walking is to wear sneakers, not all sneakers are created equally. You need to wear a sneaker that is going to provide you with the arch support that meets your individual needs. This may mean upgrading from your minimal support sneaker to something more athletically designed. 2. Try a custom insert. Of course, you can’t wear sneakers all the time. When you are at the office, professional footwear matters. You may find it helpful to have custom orthotics made for your work shoes so that you can have more arch support around the clock. You can find a variety of custom orthotics available at our clinics! 3. Learn how to improve your posture. If you are slouching when you walk, then that may be impacting the way that your back feels. Our physical therapists can evaluate your posture to determine if any imbalances or weaknesses could be causing your back pain, and then provide exercises, stretches, and other tips on how to improve your posture, and in turn relieve your back pain. Even if something else is making it hard to walk such as knee pain, hip pain, or fear of losing your balance, physical therapy is the place to start. Our therapists can identify what may be “off” in your body, and work on correcting it, while providing you with exercises and resources to continue your recovery at home, too. If you’re not walking the way you used to, and want to regain your independence, give us a call today! (229) 273-9445.

“Let me open by saying that I’m not a journalist; I was just blessed with the opportunity of a five-star experience at what I call theMiracle Fyzical Therapy & Balance Center of Cordele. In 2019, I had a below the knee amputation onmy right leg. My life as I knew it took a drastic turn both physically and physiologically. I began to lose hope, my faith was shattered, friends walked away, family members decided there was nothing else that they would or could do for me, But God! I heard a voice while PATIENT SUCCESS STORY Our Pediatric Clinic is up and running, we’re seeing tons of new kiddos every week. They love the space to run around and all the toys to play with! We want to highlight and celebrate one of our special Moms, and share a little more about a very exciting and special product you can purchase on the shelves! I Love You Beyond Words tells the story of a little boy who may not communicate the same as other children, but is just as special, just as au-some, and just as loved. A diagnosis of Autism might spark fear, uncertainty, and other emotions for parents. “Why my child? How will we handle this? Can I be a good parent? Will my child ever be like their classmates?” Mom Shamel Sims had an opportunity to feel the same way, but turned her family’s mindset to one of gratitude and thankfulness in the midst of her son’s diagnosis. Zayden was diagnosed with autism, and he is an au-some little dude! Zayden’s mom drives him to the Pediatric Center of Cordele for both Speech and Occupational Therapy all the way from Americus twice a week. Her sacrifices for her son don’t go unnoticed, and while he may not be speaking like other children his age, her love for him goes BEYOND words. And
she wrote a book about that love, that you can purchase at any of our clinics! We love our patients with autism, and love the families who sacrifice so much to help children continue to grow, learn, and become exactly who THEY were meant to be! Shamel is a perfect example of a sacrificial parent, hoping the pages in this book will not only remind her son of her unconditional love, but provide encouragement to other families with maybe similar circumstances. Stop in and grab I Love You Beyond Words the next time you visit any of our clinic locations!
living in my car with an amputated leg ask a couple of questions. The first, “Will you trust me?” The second, “Holder, have you ever seen your future and did it look like where you are right now?” What would happen next was nothing shy of a miracle. It was the first week of June when I received an anonymous phone call, and the voice on the other end said to me, “I’m calling from FYZICAL Therapy & Balance Centers. We read your article in the paper and want to assist you with your pre-therapy before you get your new leg and then post-therapy after you have your leg.” I couldn’t talk, tears were rolling uncontrollably. But when I walked in to this place, you could tell that it was performing miracles. There were people who thought they would never recover from a stroke and walk again or never recover from a critical car wreck, but this place gave them hope. It also brought the Scripture to life that says “all things are possible with God, if you only believe.” The staff are professional and anointed, and they love what they do. Each patient is the clinicians’ number one priority. It is a place of restoration. This is why it deserves FIVE STARS.” - Holder Mathis Jr
