There, is nothing in true religious toleration that; robs society of its right,to self-defense. T h e life of Christ has been published during the past year in three of the leading daily papers of Japan, having an aggregate circulation of 25,000. The total expense in volved was about a thousand dollars. A Japanese woman evangelist in a town quite out; of the track of travel, the only Chris tian worker in three counties, surprised at the changed attitude of the women who formerly knew nothing about Christianity and were bitterly prejudiced, inquired how this came about, and found that they had been reading the newspaper articles on the life of Christ. Among thé statements made at the .conference of federated missions held in Tokyo in January, one was that one child out of every 500 in Japan was in Sunday school. M a n y men fold their arms and say, “If I am one of the elect I shall be' saved, and if I am not, T sha’n’t.' No use bothering about it/’ I have an idea that the Lord Jesus saw how men were going to stumble over this doctrine of election, so after he had been thirty or forty years- in heaven, he came down and spoke to John. One Lord’s day in Patmos he said to him: “Write -these-things to- the- churches.” John kept on, writing. His pen flew very fast. And then the Lord, when it was nearly fin

In a pub lished statement by the officers of the so ciety it was said that “No one could be a Jew and a disciple of Mrs. Eddy at the same, time.” Rabbi Shanfarber, of Chicago, said: “We are depleted by the teachings of agnostics, materialists and Christian Sci ence,” and one of his contemporary rabbis added, “The Jews know more of Christian Science than of the Bible.” It is safe to say that no one who was ever profoundly versed in the sane,. solemn, devout books of .the Old, Testament ever had much use for the “Key.to the Scriptures.” A dolph S a ph ir , when a child, read the national history of the Jewish people in the books of Moses, the Psalms, and the Prophets, with great diligence, and often wondered why the God of Israel was not now with them, known, loved and followed. One day he read the title of a book in his father’s library, “Immanuel, God with Us.” The thought went through his mind like a flash of lightning; it thrilled his soul. “Oh,” he exclaimed, “if it were true that God should appear in human form, what a bless ing, it would be.” Thus prepared for the entrance of the truth, he one day heard the celebrated missionary, Dr. Schwertz, preach on Isaiah 53. The veil was taken from his eyes. When the family was sitting at din ner that day, Adolph suddenly exclaimed, “I have found the Messiah.” The boy’s determination overcame the hesitation of the other members of his family, who had
