SPRING IS AROUND THE CORNER!

That means building season is upon us and we’re ready to reap the benefits of a lot of investments we made in people, processes, and facilities in 2023. Our markets are beginning to thaw out, and in this case, I’m talking about both the ground and new construction activity. For more than 18 months now, new home construction has been slow in all but a few of our markets. We’re ready to get going, and based on more and more conversations I’ve been having with salespeople, developers, and builders, so are our customers. As activity picks up this month, I want everyone to keep a few things in mind. Too often we get trapped into thinking that life happens to us and don’t take full control of what we can make happen in life. Our minds are far more powerful than we realize. With enough focus and practice, we can change old habits and develop new ones all because we decided to change. This brings me to something we’re focusing heavily on this year. Being in a rush is the No. 1 reason for safety incidents at FBS. It’s No. 1 by a mile. We all feel the pressure to get the work done and get it done quickly. You, me, and everyone else know what this feels like. We repeatedly take unnecessary risks because we feel the pressure to get the job done. We rush into a task, not assessing the risks or preparing

to do it safely. Instead, we compromise, and because so often in the past we got away with it, we gamble again. We do this again and again until we’re finally the

one who gets hurt, who regrets dismissing the risk and letting the pressure to hurry up impact our lives maybe for a moment or maybe forever.

In the world of safety, experience is a dangerous teacher. The pattern our brains know is one where we got away with taking the risk. So, how do we change the pattern? How do we retrain our brains?

We must decide. We must establish new patterns and habits.

We must decide to behave today like the people we want to become tomorrow. We must start creating a new pattern, not one based on past experiences, but one based on anticipating or foreseeing possible outcomes. We must be fully present. We must focus our minds on the task at hand. We must not give in to the pressure to hurry. To be sure, we want and need to work at a steady pace to get the job done for our customers, but that pace includes all the room necessary for fully assessing risks and preparing to do the work both correctly and safely. It’s not contradictory. It’s complementary. Working safely is the fastest way to get the job done. Will you decide? Will you retrain your brain by establishing new patterns and habits? Will you look ahead instead of behind? Will you commit to working fast by working safely in 2024? The work is picking up and the pressure will begin to mount. Resolve today to be ready to meet that pressure, not with compromises but with commitments.

for a candidate with the team leader mindset, and without hesitation, we thought of him. He is an individual with good work ethics that go a long way and is seen by many as a leader on the Gantry Truss tables. Juan G. helps new hires and trains them to be successful employees as well as team members by following up on their progress and their questions if they don’t understand something after they have gone through the New Hire Safety Training Program. Keep up the good work, Juan Gomez. Caldwell Truss appreciates everything you do and the training you provide to help your team and location succeed!” HIGH FIVES!

EASY From: Linda Hampton, Twin Inside Sales To: Tristen Benavidez, Twin Driver

Our driver, Tristen Benavidez, received this wonderful compliment from a customer: “I just want to take a second and express my appreciation to the person who delivered our material. I had asked him to unload on the concrete near the garage. When he arrived, he checked with my wife to confirm where to unload. She pointed out that it was going into a pole barn right next to the garage, and he could unload it in the driveway in front of the pole barn next to the garage. During their conversation, my wife mentioned that I would haul it inside after I got home so it would not get wet. Your driver made the extra effort to unload the material inside the pole barn. Please thank and commend the driver for going the extra mile for us when it was not expected. His example and efforts have made us a customer for life.”

SAFE From: Andrea Cox, Jaguar To: Catherine Bedegi and the Corp HR Team

WOW From: Jeff Christoffersen, GM Pocatello To: Pocatello Yard

“High five to Catherine Bedegi and the FBS HR Team for putting together several good presentations in recent months highlighting ways we can stay safe even in an office setting. These presentations are a quick part of our monthly huddles and have covered topics like first aid, emergency drills, and office ergonomics. Catherine keeps it light-hearted and informative and always looks for ways to help her team consider health and safety.”

“Our CSR, Paul Ludwig, has a new account that left BMC/BFS. The client has remarked how great it is to be with us and noted that our drivers, especially, have been doing a great job. I want to thank everyone for doing a wonderful job and separating us from our competition with exemplary customer service.”

GUIDE From: Juan C. Rodriguez, SCI West Region To: Juan Gomez, Caldwell Truss

STRIVE From: Tyler Honn, CSR Boise To: Chrissy Garcia, AR Manager Treasure Valley

“I would like to give a big thanks and show appreciation to Juan Gomez for his drive and leadership skills in helping new hires who are part of our mentor program. Juan Gomez is part of our Caldwell Truss Team, and has been a mentor since the new building was up and running. The opportunity presented itself at the location and we started looking

“Chrissy Garcia is the new AR manager for the Treasure Valley and is killing it. I wanted to give her a high five for her work with the Shea account. She is going above and beyond what was asked, and it is noticed not only by me but by the customer as well. Thank you!”

customers. As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance customer satisfaction, we are working toward establishing a centralized warranty department that will streamline the reporting process for warranty issues,

At TVID Exterior, our organization encompasses several specialized departments including siding, gutter, garage doors, framing, doors, and windows. Our overarching goals are twofold: To facilitate a seamless building process for our customers and to cultivate a safe and fulfilling work environment for our employees. Central to our success is effective communication, spearheaded by our on-

site project managers who oversee material deliveries, returns, changes, installation dates, and warranty matters. Operating across a vast geographical area spanning the entirety of the Treasure Valley and extending to several locations around Fruitland, as well as occasional projects in the McCall area, we cover a lot of Idaho and some of Oregon. We are committed to delivering our services efficiently and effectively. Cross-training is integral to our operational strategy, allowing our team members to collaborate across departments and ensure comprehensive coverage of our service areas with a limited workforce. We leverage both subcontractor and in- house labor for installations and warranty responses, striving to provide a consistent and reliable service experience to our

offering a one-stop solution for our customers and final homeowners.

Our main physical location, situated at the former Boise Supply yard, serves as the hub for our siding operations, while our Boise and Caldwell stores accommodate our framing, finish, window gutter, and garage door teams. Despite the inherent challenges in the industry, I take pride in our cohesive and dedicated team, from managers and supervisors to installers and load builders, all united in our commitment to delivering exceptional service and exceeding customer expectations.

CHANGING THE SIGN A Community Connection:

Whether you work in one of our retail locations or have lived in the area for any period of time, you have undoubtedly seen one of our clever marquees along the highway. These often feature a mix of bad dad jokes and product promos, but nearly every location diligently works to keep them fresh and update them weekly. When I say working hard, I’m not kidding! In McCall, I only have three lines of roughly 18 characters each in which I have to:

1. Make it fit 2. Make it funny

3. Not offend anyone 4. Not recycle old material

It truly is a labor of love and something store managers take great pride in doing! Why bother? Does the activity increase sales? Do people want to come to work here because of that last seasonal zinger? Probably not, but it does give us a chance to be human. We live in the communities we serve and share the same experiences as our customers. Be it weather, politics, pop culture, or the growth of our state, we are truly in this together. As an employee-owned company, these silly signs are a simple way to weave ourselves into the fabric of our communities. We have the opportunity to celebrate homecoming, congratulate the high school team going to state,

remind people about important elections, or communicate a great deal that’s happening in-store. We are a homegrown company, and we can all enjoy a great sense of pride in working for a company whose ownership lives right here with our customers!

In the Spotlight

Tristen McNeill’s Journey at Franklin Building Supply IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Meet Tristen McNeill, our very own Account Coordinator superstar at Franklin Building Supply in Pocatello. She’s been with us for eight months, and she’s already like the secret sauce in our team recipe, making everything better. Tristen’s the gal who keeps the show running smoothly, managing customer service reps’ accounts, liaising with vendors, and getting those quotes out faster than you can say, “Build it!” Tristen’s day-to-day? It’s a mix of orchestrating orders, solving puzzles with vendors, and being the go-to for her CSR buddy. But it’s not just about ticking boxes for her. What really gets Tristen fired up is the vibe at Franklin — where everyone’s rooting for each other, and there’s a real buzz in

seeing a project come to life, from the first sketch on a napkin to the final brick laid. And here’s a fun fact: Tristen’s got a bit of the travel bug, with two Hawaiian Islands ticked off her list and a plan to conquer them all. When she’s not dreaming of tropical paradises, you’ll find her embracing the great outdoors, camping, fishing, or hunting. It’s her way of recharging and finding inspiration. Safety is a big deal for Tristen, especially on the road to Idaho Falls. It’s all part of her commitment to doing things right for herself and the team. What drives her? A mix of family, friends, and her furry companions. They’re why she

leaps out of bed every morning, ready to tackle whatever the day throws at her. Outside work, Tristen’s all about making the most of every moment, whether in the wilds or planning her next island escape. So, here’s a big shoutout to Tristen McNeill, the woman who brings her A-game to Franklin Building Supply every day. Thanks for being such a fantastic part of our team, Tristen. We can’t wait to see where your adventures take you next!
