GIVING Comfort is key
Pianists spend a great deal of time sitting down and comfort is key. A generous gift from donors Gail and Steven Toth has enabled the Music department to purchase two new deluxe concert piano stools, which are already much appreciated by the boys.
He spent many hours at College practising and playing the piano and can attest to the fact that the old stools desperately needed to be replaced.
To express their thanks, the Music department invited the Toth family to attend a recital by some of College’s top young classical musicians in the performance room on Wednesday 19 August. First, Duvernoy’s “Horn Trio No. 2”, with Year 10 student Joshua Hooker on the violin, Year 10 student James Drury on the French Horn, and Year 11 student Bruce Chen on the piano; then, Debussy’s “Estampes No. 2” for solo piano, performed by Joshua; and finally, Mozart’s “Church Sonata No. 4 in D major”, with
Joshua and Year 12 student Justin Hodges on the violin, and Music teacher Nicholas Sutcliffe on the piano.
“We like to contribute to the community, and especially
education,” says Steven Toth. “We could see this was a small project that needed to be done and we were in a position to do it.” Gail and Steven’s grandson and recent Old Boy Max Toth, who left College in 2019, is a talented pianist and organist who aspires to a professional music career.
