Exhaust Header Gaskets Replacing the exhaust is the most popular motorcycle performance modification and one which is well within the scope of the home mechanic. The popularity of pipe-swapping is no surprise, because fit a new system and you can have a lighter bike with better looks and more performance. The very first thing to do when approaching exhaust removal is to get hold of some new exhaust header gaskets, so you can put the thing back together. A leaking exhaust port gasket will create a backfire on deceleration, and makes a mess of the cylinder head / exhaust port area.
