Julian Dunkerton Superdry/Lucky Onion/Dunkerton’s Cider Cheltenham Rarely out of the news this year, or last for that matter, the Superdry plc co-founder was voted back onto the board of the fashion retailer, Post boardroom clear-out which followed, has been focusing hard on doing what he came back to do – turn around the Cheltenham brand’s fortunes. In between his departure (at the start of last year) and return this summer, he has put his considerable energies into his Lucky Onion hotel and pub business (among others), which has projects a plenty coming to fruition. He somehow managed to fit in a wedding – his own - marriage to fellow fashion business entrepreneur, Jade Holland. And, revealed in The Times Magazine, he owns the biggest private pool in the country. But for now he only has eyes for Superdry l 27
Sir David McMurtry and John Deer Renishaw Wotton-under-Edge even better recognised. Sir David McMurtry told the Financial Times he was a “reluctant entrepreneur”. Together with his then colleague at Rolls Royce, John Deer, the pair started Renishaw in 1973. It was all based on McMurtry’s own invention – a measuring tool for industry.
