You have worked hard to build up a business, either to hand down to your family or to sell for a profit so you can retire and live comfortably – and even if we are not here to enjoy it, we want our family to be able to. Sustainability is fundamental to value. Planning for succession in key roles is an essential part of making your business sustainable and ensuring it doesn’t die as a result of a single, unanticipated event.
Succession is about medium to long- term planning, and we encourage leaders to identify the two people who can fill each key role in the future. But how would they cope if they were thrown into this scenario earlier than the plan anticipated? A quick change would need to happen in order for them to ensure the continued success of the business.
