Gloucestershire’s 50 Leading Entrepreneurs - September 2019

Mr Summers says that he’s proud of the fact that many of Elmrep’s clients are likely to recommend them to their associates, which often leads to business wins and more orders. That simple mantra of ensuring that the customer receives the best service for their needs and not for the value of an invoice means that the Elmrep order books are bigger than ever. “We have a number of ways of ensuring that a company gets the best value for what they need,” Mr Summers said. “Simply by implementing those things and ensuring that the technology is working in the most efficient and economical way for a customer, we can help them make staggering savings. “Until that information is shown to a company in pounds, shillings and pence they are reluctant to switch things around. “But you’ll be surprised to

That attention to detail – and more importantly to service – is seeing Elmrep thrive in an era when doom-mongers are predicting the end for the copy and print business. The theory of one day having a paperless office is a nice one, but Mr Summers says his experience has told him that it is no more than a theory. “Everyone is saying that a paperless office is coming, but those same people have been saying it for 20 years or more, and yet here we are,” he said. “Whenever someone says to us that we don’t need a printer or we want to get rid of that copier, we do see a slight dip in their volume – but it soon returns to normal. “Often, they end up printing or copying more than they were before because, you stop one process and another one comes along to replace it. “Say, they want to stop with printed invoices and move entirely to e-mailing, that’s fine. In fact, this is a move we made almost eight years ago. “But that person you’ve invoiced has sent you some form of notification, invoice or receipt and the chances are you will have to print that out. All you are doing is moving the print. “The paperless thing is never going to happen, somebody, somewhere is going to have to print information somewhere along the line. “I must admit, I do sometimes laugh when people say that they want to go paperless, and then ask them how they want to do it. “My 25 years of experience has led me to understand what will and won’t work. “There are certainly areas where you can reduce printing, but that’s where we combine our knowledge with that of our clients to streamline their processes. “We are honest with our customers about their needs and people really appreciate that honesty. “When they trust and rely on you, they will renew their contracts because they appreciate the value of our honesty, reliability and service. It’s what makes our company successful” l

learn that we can and have saved a company with 20 or 30 employees around £1,000 per month and that’s massive. "We have a client, Naylor Powell, who have had five machines from us. Just by switching that around, we've been able to save them £30,000 over the last three years. "When I said to them that we could save them £6,000 per year I was told I was being ridiculous. "So they tracked the savings that they made and then sang my praises to another company because we had saved them much closer to £10,000 per year. "We saved them money and they are happy to renew their contract with us, so it's a win-win for everyone."
