Gloucestershire’s 50 Leading Entrepreneurs - September 2019

Improvements to the road and transport infrastructure would then kick-off the development, with a planning application for what has been called ‘Cluster 1’ of the development to be submitted in spring 2020. That would include the business park and cyber innovation centre, with the housing developments to follow at a later date. The whole scheme is expected to cost in “the hundreds of millions of pounds”, according to Cheltenham Borough Council. But the schemewill bringwidespread improvements to the Cheltenham and Gloucestershire economy and provide jobs and housing for hundreds if not thousands of local residents. According to Cheltenham Borough Council’s plan, “The whole of Cheltenham and wider area will feel the benefit of Cyber Central. “Organisations involved will share skills with local schools and colleges, support local arts and culture provision and help create a vibrant, modern and diverse community." Alex Chalk MP for Cheltenham said the development will secure Chetlenham’s economic future. He said: ''I have been passionate about investing in a cyber park for Cheltenham, because it has the potential to generate life-changing opportunities for young people from all backgrounds in this growing, high-skill, sector. “It will also help secure Cheltenham’s economic future. After £22m was pledged by central Government to back the vision, this latest investment is a really positive step forward'' l

the needs of our future communities." The housing part of the development will see 1,100 new homes and associated infrastructure built alongside cyber central. The site would expand from Pheasant Lane close to the A40 Golden Valley bypass in the south to the B4634 Old Gloucester Road to the north. Key to the development will be improvements to the road network with an ‘all ways’ junction 10 of the M5 motorway and improvements to the A4019 likely to complement the development. The three councils involved in the JCS – Cheltenham Borough, Tewkesbury District and Gloucester City – have pushed for Housing Infrastructure Fund backing for developments at Junction 10. Masterplans for the complete scheme are still being drawn, with the authorities keen to share details of the scheme by the end of the year.
