26:18.) Do we not need to get back to the spiritual emphasis and spiritual power of our fathers—the apostles, the reformers, other great spiritual leaders of more modem times? 2. What do we learn about the names given the wells? (v. 18.) Do you know that today some religious leaders use the old, familiar and well-loved names and terms of the Christian faith, but with a new and different meaning? For example, the new theology does not mean Virgin Birth by Incarnation, or the new birth by the term regeneration, or the blood sacri fice by the term atonement. In this way many churches have been led away from the truth as it is in Christ by the subtle use of these familiar terms. 3. What does the “ well of springing water” remind you of? (cp. John 7:37-39. Note: by belly in v. 38, the Saviour means innermost being.) 4. What does Esek mean? (v. 20.) What do we learn from this name about the character of Isaac, and also from the fact that he did not dispute over the well, but rather moved on and dug another? 5. The name given to the second well dug by Isaac’s servants, namely, Sitnah, means hatred, (v. 21.) Isaac removed from this place, too. (v. 22a.) Note that the world will try to hinder any spiritual work done by God’s people. 6. What is the meaning of the name given to the third well? (v. 22.) What does this name mean according to the last part of v. 22? 7. What is the meaning of God’s revela tion to Isaac? (v. 24.) 8. What was Isaac’s response to this revelation? (v. 25.) Should there be an altar in every believer’s soul? 9. How did our Lord open the conversa tion with the Samaritan woman? (John 4:7.) What was unusual about this con versation? (v. 9.) Does our Lord love people of every nation? (John 3:16.) Aug. 29, 1954 Mountains of the Bible Ex. 19:16-20; Matt. 5:1, 2, 26-30 DAILY READINGS Aug. 23 — Abraham's Sacrifice on Mt. Moriah

Saviour was and is our peace, both with God, ourselves, and other men; and surely He is gentle with us, with our faults and shortcomings. Is not this the meaning of Isa. 42:2, 3 and Matt. 11:28-30? 11. What important event took place by the Sea of Galilee? (Matt. 4:18-22.) Can you show from your knowledge of the characters of these men how they differed? Does this teach anything about our Lord’s need for a variety of personalities to carry on His work? 12. Why do you think the Lord Jesus permitted the situation of Matt. 8:23-27? Does He permit the believer today to go through difficult situations for a reason? (cp. Rom. 8:28; 1 Peter 1:6-8.) 13. Why was our Lord displeased with the disciples? (v. 26.) 14. How did He manifest His deity on this occasion? (v. 26.) 15. What was the result of this mir acle? (v. 27.) Do we love Him and revere Him and adore Him as we ought? The Gethsemane experience was the next step to the cross. Why did Jesus die on the cross?
