JannPaul’s White Series Octagon Nova is a fusion of the old European cut and modern round brilliant cut. This innovative design merges the best aspects of both, combining tradition with modernity. The old European cut offers chunky flashes and large areas of fire, but its heavy contrast patterning can cause dark areas, detracting from the diamond's brilliance.

To address this, the modern round brilliant cut was introduced, reducing pavilion main size to minimize contrast while maintaining brilliance. This cut avoids excessive darkness and enhances light return balance.

Fire

A common issue with round brilliant cuts is the diminished visual fire when viewed from 1-2 feet away. The Octagon Nova resolves this by retaining striking flashes and extreme scintillation at greater distances, making it visually engaging even from afar. It successfully combines the strengths of both cuts for maximum visual impact.

the one-of-a-kind Octagon Nova Uniqueness in Every Facet

Snowflake video transition to Octagon Nova Gemex

The design and faceting of the Octagon Nova draw inspiration from nature, specifically the intricate patterns of snowflakes. Each snowflake, with its unique structure, reflects the individuality found in diamonds. The Octagon Nova was designed not only to mirror the delicate, complex beauty of a snowflake’s form but also to achieve an optical performance that evokes the mesmerizing, microscopic growth of these natural wonders.

A Singular Identity Like Snowflakes, Each Diamond Stands Alone

Gcal Gemprint

GCAL's Gemprint® technology captures a diamond's unique optical 'finger- print' by directing a low-power laser beam at its center. As the laser passes through the diamond while it is tilting in 9 different directions, it reflects and refracts off each facet, creating a distinctive light pattern. This patented technology captures the diamond’s optical fingerprint and scintillation, resulting in a unique Gemprint pattern for each diamond, akin to optical DNA. Each diamond is unique, as confirmed by GCAL Gemprint technology, which can map a diamond's identity down to micro-level variations. Just as a snowflake's pattern is singular, a diamond's subtle facet differences make each stone one of a kind. Even a 0.01-degree shift in a facet can create a distinct pattern, similar to the way every snowflake is unique and different.

Inspired by the Supernova Explosion Celestial Brilliance

supernova explosion Octagon Nova Fire

The Octagon Nova draws its inspiration from the powerful explosion of a supernova, symbolizing an intense burst of light radiating outward. Reflecting the awe-inspiring cosmic transformation that occurs when a star reaches the end of its life cycle. The White Series Octagon Nova embodies both the dynamic energy and the radiant brilliance of a supernova, capturing light in a way that mirrors this extraordinary celestial event.

Explosion of Light: A supernova represents one of the brightest and most luminous events in the universe, where an immense burst of light occurs as a star explodes. Similarly, the Octagon Nova's 137 facets are designed to maximize light return, creating a brilliant and captivating display. The intricate facet structure mimics the radial burst of light, scattering and reflecting light in all directions to produce a dazzling effect akin to the luminosity of a supernova. Symbolism of Transformation: A supernova signifies a transformative event in the cosmos, resulting in the birth of new stars. The Octagon Nova diamond embodies this concept by pushing the boundaries of traditional diamond cutting, resulting in an innovative design within the diamond industry. Just as a supernova gives rise to new celestial bodies, the Octagon Nova represents the pinnacle of diamond design. Geometric Symmetry and Brilliance: The octagonal shape of the diamond, combined with its supernova inspired facets, offers not just physical symmetry but a sense of cosmic order and beauty. The eight-sided design reflects the balanced, symmetrical structure seen in space phenomena, aligning with the idea of a supernova's central explosion of energy dispersing outward. By combining the optical brilliance of a supernova with the perfect symmetry of an octagon, the Octagon Nova delivers both visually and symbolically, offering a diamond that represents explosive beauty and timeless transformation. The Octagon Nova is not just a diamond; it's a celebration of nature's beauty and cosmic wonder, making it ideal for buyers who want a diamond that symbolizes both individuality and brilliance.

3 tiered pavilion

The facet structure of the Octagon Nova incorporates a 3-tiered pavilion. The Octagon Nova’s 3- tiered pavilion is a critical design feature that optimizes the diamond’s light return, making it exceptionally brilliant. In diamond cutting, the pavilion is the lower part of the diamond, located beneath the girdle, and is responsible for reflecting light back up through the crown (top part) of the diamond. Layered Reflection: The 3-tiered pavilion is designed to direct light in multiple stages as it enters the diamond. Each "tier" or layer serves as an additional set of facets that catch and reflect light inward, keeping it within the diamond for a longer time before it exits. This ensures more light is internally reflected, which significantly enhances the diamond’s overall brilliance (white light return) and fire (colored light dispersion).

Light Performance Efficiency: By dividing the pavilion into three distinct layers, the Octagon Nova prevents light leakage—a common issue in diamonds with simpler pavilion designs. If the pavilion is too shallow or deep, light can escape from the bottom of the diamond, diminishing its brilliance. The 3-tiered structure ensures that light is bounced around internally before finally exiting through the top, achieving the highest light return possible. Optical Symmetry: This complex pavilion structure also adds to the diamond’s optical symmetry. Symmetry in a diamond’s cut directly impacts its light performance. The more symmetrical the facets, the more consistent the light reflection and brilliance. The 3-tiered design ensures that light bounces through the facets in a uniform manner, creating a balanced and mesmerizing sparkle from every angle. Enhancing Facet Interaction: The extra facets created by the three tiers provide additional surfaces for light to interact with. This increases the opportunities for light to reflect internally, creating a vibrant interplay of scintillation (flashes of light seen when the diamond moves). More facets mean more points where light can be reflected and refracted, contributing to the dazzling visual complexity of the diamond. Overall, the 3-tiered pavilion is a crucial innovation in the Octagon Nova that ensures the diamond achieves optimal brilliance, fire, and scintillation. This design elevates the diamond’s light performance beyond standard cuts, making it a standout choice for those who seek unparalleled brilliance and craftsmanship .

TRIANGULAR FACETS

ROUND BRILLIANT

OCTAGON NOVA

The shape of the Octagon Nova also allows a fully triangulated structure around the edges of the diamond, and these triangular facets is something that is not achievable in round brilliant diamonds. These triangular facets have a specific purpose to enhance light performance, and each of our White Series cuts, in this case the Octagon Nova’s facet design is based on the natural motion of the hand, reflecting how we typically observe diamonds in movement. Given that a diamond is almost always in motion, each facet angle is purposefully designed to either disperse or retain light effectively. The realistic tilt angle, often reaching up to 25 degrees, is fully accounted for in the design of the Octagon Nova. Even at an extreme tilt of 20 degrees to the right and 20 degrees downward, it still maintains its optimal light performance.

The Innovative Facet Design of the Octagon Nova Engineering Radiance

Image 7- at extreteme tilts octagon nova perform better than normal round

At extreme tilts of 25-30 degrees akin to our hands motion,, the Octagon Nova continues to outperform a standard round diamond by retaining brightness and fire. This is achieved by it's triangular facets, carefully spaced smaller virtual facets, purposefully equidistant from each other. These facets mimic both the intricate structure of a snowflake and the radial explosion of a super- nova.

The Innovative Facet Design of the Octagon Nova Engineering Radiance

Video link 6 Virtual facets of Octagon Nova

Just as a supernova starts with a single flash that radiates into a series of flashes, so too does the Octagon Nova exhibit large flashes interspersed with high levels of scintillation through virtual faceting. This design concept leads to a starburst effect, which creates extreme scintillation in between large flashes. This allows the viewer to not only enjoy the Octagon Nova from a frontal view, but as the diamond moves alongside with our finger’s movement, it creates a high scintillation effect on one side while retaining fire on the opposite side, producing a dynamic visual as the diamond rotates. This effect is primarily due to the interaction between the triangular pavilion facets and the crown facets, creating alternating patterns between each large main pavilion and bezel facet. The additional facets on the lower and upper girdle work together, especially in the tiered pavilion structure.

the sharp corners can be easily chipped due to thin girdle

Another crucial aspect of the Octagon Nova’s design is the increased girdle size, which serves to prevent chipping—a common issue in square-shaped diamonds like the princess cut. By enlarging the girdle, the Octagon Nova gains enhanced durability without compromising its aesthetic, making it a diamond that is as resilient as it is visually captivating.

brightness

In terms of brightness, the Octagon Nova exceeds typical round diamonds, providing more than twice the amount of brightness. Its design also enhances fire and scintillation, achieving more than three times the scintil- lation of standard rounds. This elevated light performance ensures that the diamond remains dazzling from various angles and distances, amplifying the viewing experience. The Octagon Nova’s exceptional brightness also remarkably enhances the diamond’s appearance, allowing it to display a color that appears 2-4 grades higher than its certified color.

Scintillation Scintillation in a diamond is the captivating sparkle that appears as flashes of light when the diamond moves. This sparkle includes both white flashes, known as 'flash scintillation,' and rainbow-colored flashes, called 'fire scintillation.' Together, they give the diamond a lively brilliance that catches the eye. This metric measures light returned from a single beam across nine rotational positions. Each white point represents light that is returned from the diamond and dispersed as fire. The greater the number of white points, the higher the level of scintillation, showcasing the diamond’s dynamic sparkle and brilliance.

The Octagon Nova surpasses even Super Ideal Cuts with its brilliant fire and scintillation. Its radial fire display remains visible from 1-2 feet, offering a offering an exceptional experience for the observer. This diamond features a unique radial burst of fire, with vivid flashes that radiate outward from the center, creating a stunning, almost explosive effect. A fusion of the old European cut, with the modern Round brilliant cut, the Octagon Nova paves the way for a new generation of diamonds to aspire from. The triangular facets of the Octagon Nova are meticulously arranged to maximize light dispersion, contributing to its remarkable fire. Its innovative faceting enhances light capture, creating an extraordi- nary interplay of fire, establishing its place as a benchmark for Super Ideal diamonds.

The Magic Of Fire Traditional Ideal Diamond Cut Comparison

Traditionally, diamonds are evaluated face up only, and are designed

and proportioned to perform at 90 degrees front. However, in reality,

diamonds are never static face front. The Octagon Nova overcomes this

norm by being polished step by step and performs extraordinarily at up

to 30 degree tilts. This creates a symphonic burst of edge to edge fire

display throughout the entire diamond, no matter how the diamond is

tilted.

In comparison to what's available in the industry, under the same

lighting conditions, the closest to compare to would be the diamonds

that fall into the GIA triple Excellent or AGS Ideal (0) zenith. A typical

Ideal cut or GIA triple Excellent (shallow or steep/ deep) as displayed

below portrays much less fire under these polarized direct lights. The

Octagon Nova fire surpasses even the best Super Ideal Cut (57 facets

Round brilliant), not just face up but at tilted angles as well.

Weak Light Return Light Leakages

The ASET analysis of the Octagon Nova demonstrates near-zero light leakage and outstanding light performance. The diamond effectively captures and reflects incoming light, maximizing brightness and fire. A strong red presence indicates excellent light return, while the balanced green and blue zones enhance light reflection at various angles. Notably, the Octagon Nova maintains high light return even at extreme tilt, preserving brilliance from multiple positions. Its precise faceting minimizes light loss through the pavilion, establishing it as a benchmark for Super Ideal diamonds with unparalleled brilliance and contrast.

The rotational ASET shows reality much more than a still ASET image

as it allows you to analyze the diamond at tilts. In the comparison

above, of its traditional 57 facets round brilliant counterparts, light

leakage areas (weaker reds and greens) are revealed much more,

which allows you to truly analyze a diamond's light performance.

Even for the SICs, the Octagon Nova holds true to its highest light

performance at extreme angles as it has more intense red areas than

the SIC in tilted angles. This allows the Octagon Nova to appear

significantly brighter than the SIC at all viewing angles, and not just

face up.

Intense Light Return Obstruction / Contrast

Weak Light Return Light Leakages

The Octagon Nova is engineered to perform at tilts with a high intensity of red areas. However, a black lit ASET is not as accurate as a white (non-black) lit ASET, as it does not fully reveal a diamond's light leakages.

Light leakages act as ''windows'' in a diamond, where you are seeing

through it. Areas of light leakages would not have any brightness, fire or

scintillation.

In black lit ASETs, the light leakages are revealed in the black areas,

which shows the black background. However, black lit ASETs can be very

misleading as it is able to camouflage a diamond's light leakages or

weak light return. An accurate and honest representation is to use a

white (non-black) lit ASET analysis.

Brightness Evaluation (Controlled Environment)

Figure 8 Rotation of Octagon Nova

Figure 8 Rotation of Octagon Nova

The Octagon Nova demonstrates exceptional brightness that distinguishes it from traditional cuts, achieved through a unique facet design that ensures optimal light return. Its pattern contrast plays a significant role in enhancing brilliance. The diamond's structure employs strategically spaced facets to prevent over-clustering, facilitating even light distribution across the sur- face. This carefully balanced contrast pattern functions akin to a chessboard, where alternating light and dark zones maximize brightness while creating a visually engaging effect. The triangular facets along the edges significantly enhance the Octagon Nova's brightness by directing and reflecting light back to the viewer, allowing the diamond to retain its radiance even at extreme tilts. This meticulous attention to facet placement guarantees the diamond maintains its brilliance and vibrant flashes, resulting in a two-fold increase in brightness compared to conventional round diamonds. Consequently, the Octagon Nova emerges as a standout in its category, offering a compelling combination of brilliance and visual appeal.

A Diamond’s Brilliance Traditional Ideal Diamond Cut Comparison

In comparison to the Octagon Nova, typical Ideal (steep/deep) cut are

known to suffer under these diffused white light conditions where light

leakages are prominent, not just in face up but at tilted angles. The

most common effect that accompanies these steep / deep diamonds is

known as the ''ring of death''. These are light leakage areas where light

passes through the centre table of the diamond, where you see right

through it. Against the best of SIC 57 faceted Round Brilliants, the

Octagon Nova is capable of appearing 100% brighter, which masks a

diamond's true body color by up to 2-3 grades higher.

Body Color of your Diamond Color Grade Analysis

A diamond's color should be analyzed under a white diffused

light and from its pavilion, to analyze its true body color.

In JannPaul, we only carry D to G Color grades.

Diamond Color Gradings

Color Hue VS Tone

Left: Green hue diamond Middle: Brown hue diamond Right: Gray hue diamond

A diamond can come in various hue colors, such as brown, green, yellow, gray. etc., depending on where the diamond was mined from. When GIA or AGS grades a diamond's color, they grade it by its tone (strength of color) but not its hue color. As a result, diamonds of the same Color grade may look visually different, with some appearing darker than others. Unfortunately, this is not shown on the GIA or AGS certificate, and requires visual inspection under diffused white light. Vendors often masks the hue color by showing the diamonds under direct lighting conditions only, which masks a diamond's body hue.The most common diamond hue color is brown, which most consumers purchase unknowingly. In JANNPAUL, we only accept diamonds with yellow hue, which is the brightest hue color and the least noticeable to the eyes.

Inclusion Analysis of your Diamond Darkfield

A darkfield rotational video allows you to analysis black or

white inclusion, heavy clarity or durability risk inclusions.

In JANNPAUL, we ensure that all our diamonds do not have

black, heavy clouding (milky) or feather inclusions that cut

across the girdle of the diamond that may cause durability

risk such as chipping.

Type of Inclusions Darkfield

Inclusions are natural birthmarks in a diamond when it is being

formed deep in the earth. There are some inclusion types that are

less desirable, that may affect the light performance or durability of

your diamond.

Inclusions to Avoid:

Knot, Chip, Cavity, Bruise, Indented Natural, Natural, Laser Drill

Hole, Etch Channel, Internal Graining, Surface Graining, Feather

on girdles, Heavy clouding (milky) and Black inclusions.

Left: Feather inclusions on the surface/edge that can lead to chipping Middle: Heavy cloud inclusions which causes the diamond to appear milky Right: Inclusions being reflected on multiple facets

Responsible Diamond Sourcing Ethical Source

Our Master Diamond Cutter is an active member of the Responsible Jewelry Council (RJC) and Kimberley Process (KP) compliant. Even though our cutting facility is registered with these boards, the only way to truly track ethical sourcing is by having complete control over the sourcing and diamond cutting process. This is achieved by having only 1 diamond cutter with the same strong belief of ethical sourcing. In 2018, we searched for diamond cutters around the world, who are capable of cutting the White Series collection and compliant with ethical sourcing. It took us 7 years to find the highest precision cutter with the same strong belief and practices. Dealing with multiple cutters would not allow us to effectively track down the true origin of the diamond source as it can be passed from hand to hand, which is a common practice in the diamond industry, regardless of which diamond board you are on. All of our diamonds are in-house or custom cut made to order only. We do not provide drop shipment or JIT (Just-In-Time) inventory like most vendors do. Drop shipment goods are loosely traded with limited regulation and are often passed on hand to hand, impossible to track. Online vendors that usually sell these stocks tend to censor the certificate number of the diamond on their website, to prevent consumers from tracing or verifying the origin of the diamond. As a result, false claims can be easily made. We are actively and progressively involved in the rough sourcing and cutting process to ensure the best quality of diamonds and social practices. In JannPaul, we keep track of every single diamond sourced through the help of our proactive Diamond Master Cutter.
