NSLHD Year in Review 2019

More than $90,000 was awarded as part of the initiative that sees staff pitching their service improvement or experience enhancing idea to a panel of experts from across the district. Five more bright ideas became reality as part of the Innovation Program in 2019

In round one, Boredom Busters, an initiative designed to give patients more activities while in hospital, took out the People’s Pitch and $5000 with the Bereavement Bags project and Let’s Talk About Voices also on the winners list. The Bereavement Bags project, which was granted $15,300, and its volunteers produce hand sewn bags into which the belongings of loved ones who pass away in ICU can be placed before being returned to family. Let’s Talk About Voices was crowned the overall winner, scooping $25,000 for a series of video resources for consumers of mental health services. Mental health was also the focus of round two’s big winner with the Switching Channels Wellness Channel pitch claiming top honours. They were awarded $20,000 to

develop a free-to-air mindfulness hospital TV channel ‘Get well sooner’, in conjunction with a professional healthcare production company. The station is currently being trialled on Ward 9A at Royal North Shore with scope to roll out further in the future. Ryde’s Early Post-Discharge Heart Failure Review Clinic claimed $20,000 for a high-tech piece of

equipment that would expand the clinics capabilities. The PhysioFLOW, a non-invasive haemodynamic monitoring system promises to change the way heart failure is diagnosed at Ryde Hospital. NSLHD’s innovation program will continue in 2020, with more ideas from the frontline to keep improving the patient experience and service delivery.
